Synopsis

dbt Cloud helps professional analytics engineers automate the application of powerful and proven patterns to transform data from ingestion to delivery, enabling real DataOps.
This book begins by introducing you to dbt and its role in the data stack, along with how it uses simple SQL to build your data platform, helping you and your team work better together. You’ll find out how to leverage data modeling, data quality, master data management, and more to build a simple-to-understand and future-proof solution. As you advance, you’ll explore the modern data stack, understand how data-related careers are changing, and see how dbt enables this transition into the emerging role of an analytics engineer. The chapters help you build a sample project using the free version of dbt Cloud, Snowflake, and GitHub to create a professional DevOps setup with continuous integration, automated deployment, ELT run, scheduling, and monitoring, solving practical cases you encounter in your daily work.
By the end of this dbt book, you’ll be able to build an end-to-end pragmatic data platform by ingesting data exported from your source systems, coding the needed transformations, including master data and the desired business rules, and building well-formed dimensional models or wide tables that’ll enable you to build reports with the BI tool of your choice.

At a time when most people on Earth live in regions of acute light pollution, Craig Childs takes us on a journey to rediscover the awesome power of night itself.

Seeking not the absence of light, but the presence of the universe, master storyteller Craig Childs sets out to bike from the blinding lights of the Las Vegas Strip to one of the darkest spots in North America. A fearless explorer of both the natural world and the human imagination, Childs guides us on a quest to rediscover the heavens and to ask: "What does it do to us to not see the night sky?" The Wild Dark is at once an adventure story, a field guide, and a celebration of the awesome power of night itself, inviting us to look up and to look inward, eyes wide and sparkling with stars.

"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."

This is the book that launched the scientific age. Sir Isaac Newton's Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (often simply The Principia) is arguably the single most important work in the history of science, defining the world for centuries to come.

First published in 1687, this masterpiece of classic science laid out the three laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation, explaining everything from the orbit of the planets to the trajectory of a cannonball. Newton didn't just describe the universe; he provided the mathematical tools (Calculus developed by him and Leibniz) to understand it.

In this seminal work, you will find:

Newton's Laws of Motion: The bedrock of classical physics.

Universal Gravitation: The mathematical proof for why and how objects attract each other.

The Foundation of Calculus: The analytical engine for solving problems in theoretical physics and astronomy.

A Classic of Philosophy: A monumental treatise on how the universe naturally works, governed by immutable mathematical principles.

Essential reading for students, scholars, and anyone interested in the history of science, The Principia remains a testament to human reason and one of the great intellectual achievements of Western civilization.

Have you ever wondered if there are seasons on the moon or if space tourism will ever become commonplace? So has Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock. In fact, she earned her nickname “Lunatic” because of her deep fascination for all things lunar. In her lucidly written, comprehensive guide to the moon, Aderin-Pocock takes listeners on a journey to our closest celestial neighbor, exploring folklore, facts, and future plans.

She begins with the basics, unpacking everything from the moon’s topography and composition to its formation and orbit around the Earth. She travels back in time to track humanity’s relationship with the moon—beliefs held by ancient civilizations, the technology that allowed for the first moon landing, a brief history of moongazing, and how the moon has influenced culture throughout the years—and then to the future, analyzing the pros and cons of continued space travel and exploration. The Book of the Moon will be published for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Natures Silken Robes :: Bombyx mandarina
This poem was inspired by a program I saw on silkworms and their germination and metamorphosis into the adult moths (which they generally never get to because of the demand for their silk).
Domesticated silk moths don't survive the silk process of obtaining their silk. The death of the silk moth is not described in this Poem. The silk worm trade has been going for over 5,000 years and cultivated mainly in Asia.
The name the 'Silk Road' came about because of this highly lucrative trade.
The domesticated silk worms are called Bombyx mori,
and their Wild cousins are called Bombyx mandarina.

More than one hundred species of kingfishers brighten every continent but Antarctica. Not all are fishing birds. They range in size from the African dwarf kingfisher to the laughing kookaburra of Australia. This first book to feature North America's belted kingfisher is a lyrical story of observation, revelation, and curiosity in the presence of flowing waters.

The kingfisher—also known as the halcyon bird—is linked to the mythic origin of halcyon days, a state of happiness that Marina Richie hopes to find outside her back door in Missoula, Montana. Epiphanies and a citizen science discovery punctuate days tracking a bird that outwits at every turn. The female is more colorful than the male (unusual and puzzling) and the birds' earthen nest holes are difficult to locate.

While the heart of the drama takes place on Rattlesnake Creek in Missoula, the author's adventures in search of kingfisher kin on the lower Rio Grande, in South Africa, and in London illuminate her relationships with the birds of Montana. In the quiet of winter, she explores tribal stories of the kingfisher as messenger and helper, pivotal qualities for her quest. For all who love birds or simply seek solace in nature, Halcyon Journey is an inviting introduction to the mythic and mysterious belted kingfisher.
