Summary

Masters of the Burrow: 8 Classic Books on the Study of Pocket Gophers provides an unprecedented exploration of the enigmatic pocket gopher, a creature often overlooked in the annals of zoological literature. This anthology, thoughtfully curated by some of the foremost authorities in mammalogy, traverses a landscape rich with scientific inquiry and discovery. The collection includes a range of literary styles, from meticulous field observations and taxonomic analyses to studies on ecological impacts and behavior. While each piece stands robust on its own merit, collectively, they highlight the complex interplay between these subterranean rodents and their ecosystems, offering fresh insights into the ecological significance of these industrious burrowers. The anthology assembles the pioneering works of esteemed scholars such as Phillip M. Youngman, Robert J. Russell, H. Gordon Montague, E. Raymond Hall, and Bernardo Villa Ramírez, each of whom has significantly advanced the field of mammalogy. Their combined efforts offer a profound understanding of the habits, habitats, and taxonomies of pocket gophers, spanning various geographical and environmental contexts. By capturing the zeitgeist of mid-20th-century zoological studies, this collection not only reflects the scientific endeavors of its time but also aligns with broader movements in conservation and ecological awareness. Masters of the Burrow is an invaluable resource for anyone intrigued by natural history, animal behavior, or the delicate balance within ecosystems. This anthology invites readers to unravel the intricacies of pocket gophers through a tapestry of perspectives, enriching both laypersons and scholars alike with its wealth of knowledge. Mother Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu, typically referred to as Saint Teresa of Calcutta in the Catholic Church, was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary. She was born in Skopje (today the capital of North Macedonia), which was then part of the Ottoman Empire's Kosovo Vilayet. After eighteen years in Skopje, she went to Ireland and ultimately to India, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Teresa formed the Missionaries of Charity in the year 1950, a Roman Catholic spiritual order with about 4,500 nuns active in about 133 nations in the year 2012. The group runs houses for clients with HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and tuberculosis who are near death. Soup kitchen areas, dispensaries, mobile centers, kids' and family therapy programs, and also orphanages and schools, are all part of the company. Members swear chastity, poverty, and obedience, and also a 4th vow: "dedicated free service to the poorest of the poor."
Teresa got many awards, and that includes the Ramon Magsaysay Peace Reward in the year 1962 and the Nobel Peace Reward in the year 1979.
This celebrated Catholic saint has been the topic of discussion in many high circles. Let’s take a look at what happened in her life, and what she did.

Long before he became President of Sinn Féin, Gerry Adams was a civil rights activist who took part in sit-ins, marches and protests in Northern Ireland. Along with hundreds of other men, Adams was interned on the Maidstone prison ship and in Long Kesh prison – without charge or trial – during the 1970s for his political activities. Women were interned also, in Armagh Women's Prison. Cage Eleven is his own account – sometimes passionate, often humorous – of life in Long Kesh. Written while Adams was a prisoner, the pieces were smuggled out for publication.
This updated edition includes a new introduction and sketches drawn in Cage Eleven by another prisoner at the time, Danny Devenny.
'Offers a unique insight into … the experience of internment … an unrivalled representation of the resilience and humour that were as much a part of the life of the political prisoner as the adherence to a set of political ideals.' Irish Herald
