Sinopsis

In "The Third and Last Part of Conny-Catching," Robert Greene delivers a vivid exposé of the underbelly of Elizabethan society, artfully blending narrative prose with satirical commentary. This 1592 work serves as a continuation of Greene's earlier writings on con artistry and deception, employing a rich literary style that resonates with the clandestine world it depicts. Through a series of engaging anecdotes and sharp wit, Greene critiques social folly and moral ambiguity, inviting readers to reflect on the nature of human behavior in a rapidly changing world. His work is situated within the context of a burgeoning market economy and social stratification, where the rise of the con man parallels the complexities of Renaissance ethics. Greene himself was deeply entrenched in the vibrant cultural milieu of his time. As an author grappling with personal strife and the pitfalls of fame, he often drew upon his own experiences, including the lure and consequences of ambition. His background as a playwright and pamphleteer, alongside his interactions with the lower echelons of society, imbued his writing with a palpable authenticity, reflecting both the allure and dangers of the theatricality of life. This work is recommended for readers interested in Elizabethan literature, social commentary, and the art of deception. Greene's keen insights and immersive storytelling not only entertain but also enlighten, making it a compelling read for anyone seeking to understand the intricacies of human nature and the societal dynamics of the late 16th century.

The amazingly insightful, funny and brilliant record of Michael Palin's prime years as a member of the famed comedic group, Monty Python. “Charming and at times revelatory . . . A voice of (relative) sanity in the eye of a comedic storm, Palin paints so vivid a picture that the reader becomes a Python by proxy.” —The New York Times Book ReviewMichael Palin has kept a diary since newly married in the late 1960s, when he was beginning to make a name for himself as a TV scriptwriter, and Monty Python was just around the corner. This volume of his diaries reveals how Python emerged and triumphed, how he, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, the two Terrys—Jones and Gilliam—and Eric Idle came together and changed the face of British comedy. But this is only part of Palin’s story. Here, too, is his growing family, his home in a north London Victorian terrace, his solo effort as an actor, and his writing endeavors (often in partnership with Terry Jones) that produce Ripping Yarns and even a pantomime.Meanwhile Monty Python refuses to go away: his account of the making of both The Holy Grail and the Life of Brian movies are page-turners, and the sometimes extraordinary goings-on of the many powerful personalities who coalesced to form the Python team makes for funny and riveting reading.A perceptive and funny chronicle, the diaries are a rich portrait of a fascinating period.“It is terrifically good: funny, astute, and wonderfully written.” —The Boston Globe

The Inspiring Life and Legacy of William Borden, a Man of Unwavering Faith and Profound Impact
William Borden was extraordinary in almost every sense. Born into wealth and privilege, he could have chosen to live a life of luxury and ease. Instead, he surrendered it all for a life of service to Christ. "Borden of Yale" is the riveting account of a man who exemplified what it means to be fully committed to God.
Raised in Moody Church in Chicago and educated at both Yale and Princeton, Borden first felt the missionary call during a round-the-world journey gifted to him by his parents at the age of sixteen. The following year, he received a distinct call to dedicate his life to serving the Muslims of China, a decision that shaped everything he did from that point forward.
Though a scholar in his own right, Borden's theological insights were not merely intellectual pursuits; they were living beliefs that propelled him into action. From leading Bible studies in dorms and founding the Yale Hope Mission to serving as a director at the National Bible Institute and spearheading evangelistic efforts that impacted the entire city of Cairo, Borden was unwavering in his commitment to share the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As promising as his life appeared, Borden passed away in Egypt while en route to serve the Muslims in China. Thousands mourned, contemplating what might have been. Yet countless others have been inspired to follow in his footsteps to the mission field.
William Borden was a visionary, a trailblazer, and an inspiration for all who seek to follow Jesus Christ. This is not just a book; it's an invitation to reevaluate what truly matters and to live wholeheartedly for the Lord.

I got naked so I could produce an album.
Rock n Pole is the raw, hilarious, and unfiltered memoir of Aimee Bushong—an aspiring rock star who stripped to fund her music career and refused to give up on her dream, no matter how sideways it got.
By day, she fronted a gritty indie band. By night, she danced under blacklights and hustled lap dances in Denver’s sleaziest clubs—juggling guitar strings and g-strings, heartbreak and hangovers, hope and humiliation.
Told with biting wit and brutal honesty, this isn’t a story about victimhood. It’s a story about survival, ambition, absurdity—and doing whatever it takes to make art in a world that doesn’t give a f—k.
If you've ever chased a dream, defied expectations, or lived a double life just to keep the lights on—this audiobook is for you.

Amazing! An astonishing find! - AMITAV GHOSH
Nariman Karkaria, a young Parsi from Gujarat, had always wanted to see the world. So he left home as a teenager with fifty rupees in his pocket to do just that. After working in Hong Kong and Peking for a few years, in 1914, when war was in the air, he decided to volunteer for the British Army. Passing through China, Manchuria, Siberia, Russia and Scandinavia, he reached London early in 1915 and managed to register as a private with the 24th Middlesex Regiment. He was now a Tommy.
Incredibly, Karkaria saw action on three major fronts in the next three years. In 1916, he was in the trenches at the Battle of the Somme. After convalescing from an injury, he was sent off to the Middle Eastern Front where he fought in the Battle of Jerusalem in 1917. He was then transferred to the Balkan Front in 1918, where he served in Salonika. After being discharged, he returned to India and wrote a book in Gujarati about his years of travel and adventure, which was published in 1922.
Karkaria's war memoir is truly one of a kind. And in Murali Ranganathan's brilliant translation, this astonishing story comes alive with rare immediacy and vigour.
