Summary

In "The Ghosts, and Other Lectures," Robert Green Ingersoll presents a series of compelling discourses that challenge prevailing notions of religion, superstition, and the afterlife. This collection of lectures, rich in rhetorical flair and intellectual rigor, reflects Ingersoll's belief in reason and the scientific method, showcasing his ability to articulate complex ideas in accessible language. Set against the backdrop of the 19th-century rationalist movement, Ingersoll's work embodies the spirit of enlightenment questioning that sought to dismantle dogmatic beliefs, featuring his famous critique of the concept of spiritual apparitions alongside examinations of morality without reliance on the divine. Robert Green Ingersoll, known as the "Great Agnostic," rose to prominence as one of America's most influential orators and social reformers during a time when skepticism about organized religion was emerging. Born in 1833 in New York, his experiences as a lawyer and a public figure fueled his advocacy for civil liberties, separation of church and state, and the rights of women. Ingersoll's upbringing in a religious household, accompanied by his eventual philosophical turn, catalyzed his desire to confront superstition and promote a more enlightened worldview. Readers seeking to explore the intersection of logic, passion, and advocacy for rational thought will find "The Ghosts, and Other Lectures" to be a provocative and enlightening journey. Ingersoll's eloquence not only entertains but also challenges readers to reconsider their beliefs about the supernatural and the moral implications of secularism, making it a timeless piece for anyone interested in the evolution of modern thought.

Have you ever felt a deep yearning on the inside, gently tugging at your heart? It feels like something is missing. Come, take another look with me at the shepherd's psalm in "The Heart of My Shepherd." See how the Lord gently leads, protects, and genuinely loves you. Only He can fulfill that yearning, just like a shepherd cares for his sheep. The Lord is loving and a gentleman and will not force Himself into our lives. He wants us to make the choice and choose to serve and make Him our shepherd. Carolyn Savage was born in North Carolina and relocated to Norristown, Pennsylvania at around eight years old. She has always had a love for listening to, telling, and writing stories. She gave her life to the Lord as a young teen. She loved going to church and serving in any way she could and she has since served in numerous capacities, as a teacher and wherever else there was a need. One of her greatest joys was teaching at VBS. She worked in the local school district for over twenty-one years. She earned a degree in early childhood education and is now retired. She is married to Marvin, her husband of over forty years, and is the mother of three adult children, Gabriel, Michael, and Rebecca. Her three grandchildren, Kellyn, Caleb, and Noah, are the joys of her life. Alongside her husband, Carolyn founded and has co-pastored Kingdom Family Fellowship in Norristown, Pa. for over eleven years. Curiosity slows us down, tunes us in for transformation, pushes past shame, activates awe, and rewrites with hope.

Sacred Curiosity explores how the simple practice of remaining open to wonder can become a powerful force for personal and communal renewal.

Through personal stories, spiritual reflection, and practical ideas, Britney Winn Lee reveals how curiosity slows us down when life feels overwhelming, builds bridges across our deepest divisions, pushes past shame toward liberation, and rewilds our domesticated spirits. Neither a theological treatise nor a scientific study, and yet somehow a wonder-filled blend of the two, this book offers a heartfelt exploration of curiosity as both grace and practice. Lee writes as a fellow pilgrim who has experienced curiosity's transformative power firsthand—hating and fearing less through its freeing and connective guidance.

With reflection questions for individuals or groups, the book invites us to experience curiosity not as a luxury or personality trait, but as an indispensable value for navigating our complex world. It's an invitation to follow breadcrumbs of wonder toward a more generous, hopeful way of being.

A master of language, moral lessons, and capturing the beauty of the everyday, Charles Dickens also brings elements of magic and wonder to this tale along with, of course, the meaning and joy of the Christmas season. Expecting to be able to bask in the nostalgia of the holiday, the character of Ebenezer Scrooge exists in stark contrast and is instantly despised. Dickens chooses Scrooge as his protagonist to take his audience through the selfish and narrow-sighted distractions of this world. A cautionary tale with a heartwarming twist, A Christmas Carol was and is a beloved classic for good reason. This series, published by ONE audiobooks, seeks to produce Classic Christian titles read by well known and loved Christian audiobook narrators. In a world experiencing turbulent change, we need people who are resilient, kind, open, generous, and brave. How do we become those people?

In Fully Alive, now available in paperback, popular podcaster Elizabeth Oldfield uses the seven deadly sins as a framework to explore questions such as:

    ● How can I move from sloth to attention to make the most of my short life and stop getting distracted by trivialities?
    ● Is it possible to move from wrath to peacemaking and become a depolarizing person in an age of outrage and division?
    ● What might it look like to move from gluttony to awe, finding transcendence in expansive, life-giving ways--not in a tub of ice cream or a bottle of wine?
    ● How can I move from pride to connection, overcoming the disconnection that keeps me from intimacy, community, and ultimately the divine?

Oldfield shows why, in a world heavy on judgment, she still finds the concept of sin liberating--and how, to her surprise, she keeps finding in her Christian faith ways to feel fully alive.
