Summary

The Station by Robert Byron is Byron's in-depth record of his travels to Mount Athos, the spiritual heart of Eastern Orthodox Monasticism. Excerpt: "Letters from foreign countries arrive in the afternoon. Each envelope advertises a break in the monotony of days; each reveals on penetration only one more facet of a standard world. But latterly another kind has come, strangely addressed, stranger still within. "We learn," runs one, "that you are safely returned to your own glorious country and are already in the midst of your dearest ones, enjoying the best of health…"

Nanima is a place of rivers and soil, memory and mystery.
It is a place that has known Maliyan longer than her own memory — much longer — through family, blood, and land. And now, after thirty years, it is reclaiming her. Her return to the small rural town is marked not only by the pull of ancestry and nature but by the relationships that shape her inner and outer world.
One such relationship is with Luna — a vibrant, changeable companion whose wit reveals a quick mind but veils a searching heart. Maliyan offers him love and presence, and Luna begins, however haltingly, to respond. Their connection is up and down — together and apart — shaped by affection, honesty, and the pull of awakening.
Nanima is the opening novel in a contemplative spiritual fiction series that honours the land beneath our feet, the knowing within our hearts, and the sacred moments that change us.

The 1931 winner of the Newbery Medal, finally in audiobook form with new original music.

Elizabeth Coatsworth originally published The Cat Who Went to Heaven in 1930 with illustrations by celebrated artist Lynd Ward. Set in a village in ancient Japan, the tale recounts the adoption of a cat by a poor painter and his housekeeper. At first suspicious of the feline, the painter grows fonder as he depicts a succession of animals in a large silkscreen painting portraying “The Death of the Lord Buddha,” commissioned by the village temple. As each animal appears in the painting, the reader receives a Buddhist folktale illustrating Buddhist teachings of kindness, mercy, and sacrifice.

As the painter painstakingly creates his masterpiece, the adopted cat, whom the artist names Good Fortune, demonstrates a devotion to the Lord Buddha and his teachings that surprises and inspires the humble household. Through her behavior and deeds, Good Fortune steadily overcomes the reputation of the cat as the one animal too proud to pay homage to the Lord Buddha. She earns her place alongside her fellow creatures, her place in heaven.

While generations have treasured The Cat Who Went to Heaven, this is the first audiobook production of the work. Why? The music. Coatsworth broke up the narrative into eight parts, and ended each part with a “song of the housekeeper” that provided an emotional summary of the preceding scenes. Coatsworth presented the songs, however, as simple poems, and never offered the chords or melodies that would allow a narrator to easily sing the songs. This audiobook contains original musical compositions based on Coatsworth’s lyrics from the text.

During a bus ride with a group of fellow college students, Jenny Booth Potter came to a life-changing realization. She decided that racism in all its forms—in policies and systems, in organizations and churches, in neighborhoods and families—could no longer be tolerated. And even though Jenny didn't know what to do about racism, she was certain of one thing: doing nothing is no longer an option. That declaration Jenny made to her peers was more than seven words uttered on a bus. It was a vow, a lifetime commitment to seek racial justice.

With candor and humility, Jenny shares her very imperfect but relentless journey of growing in awareness of racism, of reckoning with her own white privilege, and of learning how to be an antiracism advocate alongside her young family. If you're anything like Jenny was on that bus—overwhelmed by the enormity of racism and compelled to do something, but uncertain if you can actually make any difference—then this book is for you. Join Jenny and see for yourself what everyday antiracism looks like.

From a New York Times Notable "writer of great originality" comes a bold new novel about love, faith, and two societal outsiders whose lives converge in the contemporary American South

In 2014, in Lookout Mountain, Alabama, the Prophet—a seventy-year-old man who paints his visions—lives off the grid in a cabin near the Georgia border. While scrounging for materials at the local scrapyard, the Prophet sees a car pull up to an abandoned gas station. In the back seat is a teenage girl with zip ties on her wrists, a girl he realizes he must rescue from her current life. Her name is Michael, and the Prophet feels certain that she is a messenger sent by God to take his end-time warnings to the White House. Michael finds herself in the Prophet's remote, art-filled cabin, and as their uncertain dynamic evolves into tender friendship, she is offered a surprising opportunity to escape her past—and perhaps change her future.

Moving through the worlds of the Prophet, the girl, and a beguiling devil figure who dances in the corner of their lives, Two-Step Devil is a propulsive, philosophical examination of fate and faith that dares to ask what salvation, if any, can be found in our modern world.
