Summary

It’s been three years since Sherilee Malcolm was acquitted of the murder of her former mentor and lover, Otto Workman. A popular writer, Sherilee goes underground and creates a fictional character for herself, living a life of illusion. And then, one day, it cracks.

Washington “Wash” Shank, a detective hired by Sherilee’s lawyers to prove her innocent, is under siege from the firm where he works. His job was to ruin the confidence of the lead witness against Sherilee. Now that man, Simon Parker, claims he has seen a second murder, and believes it was committed by someone who's a dead ringer for Sherilee.

A sculptor and multimedia artist, Parker has a show scheduled that will reveal his vision of the murder and Sherilee’s guilt. Parker’s desire to reveal a truth he does not know, but is convinced he does, becomes a point that Shank wants to thwart, and Sherilee wants to disprove. Now, all of their reputations are at stake. But are their lives as well?

By the Time I Got to Bogotá
When Elena disappears, months pass without explanation. Then her sister calls: Elena was in Bogotá. She left again. No one knows why.
Thomas travels to the city on his last night there, chasing an address he doesn’t fully understand. As the streets narrow and detour without warning, memory intrudes—particularly one phone call he let ring a little too long.
A private investigator by trade, Thomas has spent his life arriving after the fact, close to the truth but never inside it. In Bogotá, he is forced to confront the pattern that cost him more than he admitted.
By the Time I Got to Bogotá is a restrained literary noir about procrastination, moral timing, and the quiet ways relationships end—not in explosions, but in minutes that feel harmless until they aren’t.
    For readers who appreciate:
    Psychological noir
    Slow-burn literary fiction
Stories driven by atmosphere and interior conflict
    Ambiguous, inevitable endings
    This is not a thriller.
    It’s a reckoning.

"The Problem of Cell 13" is a short story by Jacques Futrelle. It was first published in 1905 and later collected in The Thinking Machine (1907), which was featured in crime writer H. R. F. Keating's list of the 100 best crime and mystery books ever published. Like Futrelle's other short stories, "The Problem of Cell 13" features Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen as the main character, although most of the story is seen through the perspective of a prison warden. While in a scientific debate with two men, Dr. Charles Ransome and Alfred Fielding, Augustus, "The Thinking Machine", insists that nothing is impossible when the human mind is properly applied. To prove this, he agrees that he will take part in an experiment in which he will be incarcerated in a prison for one week and given the challenge of escaping.
