The successful Apollo 11 mission was certainly an astonishing technological triumph, but what is less well remembered now are that many programs preceded Apollo and were essential to its success. Project Mercury was one of those, and in many ways it represented the greatest step forward in terms of the conquest of space. Before Project Mercury, there was no certainty that a human could survive the rigors of a space launch or live outside Earth’s atmosphere. There was no agreement on just what an astronaut should be, and various individuals involved debated whether they should be pilots, technicians, scientists, or even merely observers in an automated craft. Before Project Mercury, no one was entirely certain what a rocket capable of taking a person into space would look like, or even whether building such a craft was within the capabilities of engineering in the 1950s.
Gemini also marked another important milestone as America finally surpassed the Soviet Union in space technology. Before Gemini, the US was playing a desperate game of catch-up as it attempted to match Soviet accomplishments. The last Project Mercury flight launched in May 1963, and before then, Russia had put the first satellite in Earth’s orbit and the first man in space and had followed these with longer flights than the tiny Mercury spacecraft. In terms of military significance, it was recognized that the ability to dominate space was very important, and to many people in America, it seemed that Russia was well on the way to doing this. No one could have guessed that it would be almost three years before the next American manned space flight occurred when Gemini 3 left the launch pad in March 1965. It seemed to many people that the Russian lead in space exploration had become unassailable and, in order to reestablish the credibility of the US space program, the Gemini flights simply had to succeed.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
Decision-making in the cockpit has a direct relationship with the safety of operations. But not only does it affect pilots of all levels, but it also involves many more people involved in the process.
Decision-making is a process, and as such, it requires a series of logical steps to achieve the goal. This process occurs unconsciously in our brain in a fraction of a second. As human beings, we constantly make decisions, we decide what to eat, what clothes to wear, with which hand we caress our hair, or simply on which side we turn our heads when we hear a sound and react to this stimulus. All these actions are preceded by an unconscious process of the brain where in a fraction of a second all the options were analyzed and the most appropriate one was chosen.
In aviation, the pilot constantly makes operational decisions, from the first hour of flight to the last at the end of his career. In this work, we will analyze all the variables that could affect the decision-making process, seeking to learn the tools to minimize the error during this process. An indispensable book for every pilot, regardless of their level of experience.

»We are at a turning point in human history. To stop climate breakdown and extinction, environmental movements need to be actively anti-racist and join struggles for social justice.«Carola RacketeIn 2019, Carola Rackete became publicly known for docking the sea rescue vessel »Sea-Watch 3« in Italy and thereby challenging a nationaldecree that contradicted internationalobligations to engage in sea rescue. Due to this act of civil disobedience and her public confrontation of the Italian far right and the structural racism of the EU's Fortress Europe policy, Carola became a powerful symbol for people seeking to take practical action for a world based on justice and equality. Carola has worked in the polar regions since 2011 and holds a degree in natural resources management. Consequently, her book shows how the ecological crises we are facing today are rooted in social and political power structures. The book details moments of the rescue mission but also connects the dots to forced migration and the urgency of our environmental predicament. Overall, it is a call to engage and act to become part of initiatives and movements struggling for social and environmental justice. This version of the book includes a new afterword focused on centring justice and human rights in nature and biodiversity conservation-a topic often overlooked by climate activists in the Global North. The authors will donate the revenue from this book to the association borderline-europe-Menschenrechte ohne Grenzen e.V. in order to launch a new criminalization fund. The money from this fund will be used to support refugees who are criminalized in the EU for fleeingtoEurope.Acknowledgements: This audio book has been made possible by the voluntary contributions of many people, most notably Marysa Abbas who is the voiceover artist of this audioproject, Diane Hielscher who provided her studio "LifeX Lab-wir machen Medien für eine neue Welt" for the recordings and production, Céline Keller who contributed the cover art, Alfio Furnari from Borderline-Europe who managed administration and contracts, the management of liberaudio as well as Anne Weiss who got the projectrolling and connected everyone. Face size matters!
90% of the population reaches adulthood with underdeveloped midfaces and lower jaws. This causes lots of crowding—the teeth, tongue, tonsils, and adenoids are crowded. The nasal septum deviates to one side or the other, ears get congested. The airway is restricted, and the body responds by shifting into the Sympathetic Nervous System. Living in low-level sympathetic mode erodes health. This can contribute to anxiety, headaches, low thyroid, ADHD/ADD symptoms, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and many other common mental or physical health conditions.
Dr. Pomerance was part of that 90%. In About Face, she shares her Airway Dentistry expertise regarding face size and health outcomes stemming from years of continuing education, her personal health struggles, and decades of clinical experience, explaining:How facial underdevelopment happensWhat to do to avoid itHow to identify itHow to resolve the underdevelopment to restore health and wellbeing
Whether you're a dental professional or simply want to learn more about the subject to improve your quality of life, About Face provides a wealth of information and resources in an accessible, comprehensive format.
