Summary

WTF is "Running Harmony", and who the hell is this "Harmony" guy anyway? Running Harmony is the art of running hard, sitting soft, and eating kind. It's also the name of Ray Harmony's running column in Vegan Health & Fitness magazine. This book is the first volume in the series, and is a collection of all Ray's writing on running from 2015 to 2016. Ray Harmony is a British African based in Canada via the USA, and has been Vegan Straight Edge for over 10 years. He is a full-time musician and author, and a part-time runner, who recently completed a one-year 5K-a-day running streak. Ray is a Vibram ambassador and runs exclusively in FiveFingers. His favourite distance is 5K, with a current PR of 18:41. He also has a handful of running medals, but he doesn't like showing off so he keeps them hidden in the zipped pocket of his laptop bag, mainly as an occasional reminder to himself that sometimes he can run pretty fast. Ray Harmony has made music with Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, and many more. Ray's running song “Two Runs Make a Right” is available for free download from his website: RunningHarmony.com

"If exercise is medicine – and it is – Ray Harmony is Gregory House by way of Patch Adams. A lively kick in the butt for lapsed gym dogs and a hymn to the awesome power of commitment." —BRUCE GRIERSON, author of What Makes Olga Run?

“Ray submitted an excerpt from this book for his column in Vegan Health & Fitness magazine. I was the lucky first one to read it, and immediately insisted on reading most of it aloud to the rest of the staff. We all agreed that it was probably the best thing that has ever been published in VHF. Not only is it extremely eloquent and well-written, but the message comes from the heart and is very touching and inspirational. We can all relate to the emotions Ray experienced, and his journey is a joy to experience with him. I highly recommend this book. I know it is going to make a real difference in the lives of those who read it.” —BRENDA CAREY, editor of Vegan Health & Fitness magazine

Gehrig & The Babe: The Friendship and the Feud is the emotionally gripping, electrifying account of the relationship of legendary New York Yankee icons Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth and the tragic behind-the-scenes fight that bitterly tore them apart until Gehrig was dying of a horrific disease.

Written by historian and best-selling author Tony Castro, this critically acclaimed book tells their remarkable story that has often been lost between the pages of individual biographies of the American icons but here is explored in such scope and detail that the Wall Street Journal called Gehrig & the Babe "...the 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid' of baseball." ESPN's Jeremy Schaap called Gehrig & the Babe "a fascinating story told in full really for the first time, seventy-plus years after their death."

Tony Castro, whose Mickey Mantle: America's Prodigal Son has been hailed by the New York Times as the definitive biography of the Hall of Fame legend, worked almost a decade on Gehrig & the Babe, interviewing hundreds of their surviving former teammates, associates, and friends while also extensively researching their lives in New York, Baltimore, Boston, and Los Angeles as well as studying years of newspaper accounts of the era in which they played.

Olympic rowers Gary and Paul O'Donovan may be the face of Irish rowing and Skibbereen Rowing Club, and have enormously increased the popularity of rowing in Ireland, but they're just one piece of a much larger jigsaw. Without their club and the people behind the scenes, they wouldn't be Olympic silver
    medalists,
2018 world champions, former European champions and, in Paul's case, a three-time world champion.

Almost one hundred Skibbereen Rowing Club athletes have represented Ireland at various regattas over the years; a staggering figure when viewed in light of the size of the club. Founded in 1970, it is now the undisputed most successful rowing club in the country, producing five Olympic rowers since 2000 and four world champions between 2016 and 2018. It is the characters involved in the club, the coaches, members and the athletes themselves, who come together to make Skibbereen Rowing Club what it is.

Something in the Water reveals what goes on behind the scenes to create an environment that allows locals to excel on the national and international stages. The story is told through the people and families involved, showing how relatable they are to people around the country.
