Summary

Enjoy this clean, paranormal cozy mystery by award-winning and bestselling author Lucinda Race.

Welcome to Pembroke Cove, where witches and murders are multiplying...

In a small New England town, Lily Michaels is reveling in a tranquil day in her happy place—her bookstore. Contentment evaporates when two archeologists burst through the door on a mission. They're searching for books about amulets—precisely, the cursed Heart of the Soul, on display at the Olde Town Library in Pembroke Cove. Lily’s familiar, Milo, hops onto the counter and the conversation halts Milo’s tail mid-swish. After the out-of-towners leave with the same frenzy as they entered, Milo reveals a secret that could change the coven of the Michaels witches forever.

Later that night, Lily and her fiancé, Detective Gage Erikson, are enjoying a moonlit stroll on the beach. They stumble upon the lifeless body of Petra Addington, one of the archeologists from the bookstore, clutching the Heart of the Soul amulet. Questions tumble through Lily’s brain: How did Petra steal it, and why did she end up on the beach, dead? Could the reported curse from the Heart of the Soul have claimed a new victim?

With the clock ticking, Lily must uncover the amulet's secrets and protect those she loves. As she investigates the murder and Milo’s past, the very foundation of Lily's life may change forever. Will her determination and skill as a witch be strong enough to solve the murder before there are more victims—including her beloved familiar?

Artifacts and Amulets is the 8th novel in A Book Store Cozy Mystery Series, although each book can be read as standalone. It is a sweet and clean, cozy mystery with a guarantee that the culprit is caught. Happy reading!

Antonio Valentino was killed after work by three men, alleging he was having an affair with one of their wives. Claiming self-defense, the murderers are exonerated, believing that a toy pistol in the victim’s pocket was an actual weapon. After the murder trial, a family vendetta is loudly placed against his father’s killers.
Forty years later, Detective Valentino is now an alcoholic, losing his wife and family to his drinking. After his mother dies, he cleans out the attic of her home, to find a wooden truck with an evidence bag from the night of the murder. Included, is a blood-stained, water pistol he once owned as a little boy…the very toy pistol his father used to fool his killers.
One evening, the wife of one of the murderers is found brutally stabbed in her ex-husband’s mobile home. Next to her body, is the stanza of a poem and a toy water pistol. Valentino, the prime suspect, has no idea who the "Water Pistol Killer" is.
With every new murder, there's a new stanza to the poem and a toy water pistol, lying next to the body….

A powerful chronicle of moral courage, human resilience, and the haunting choices made during history's darkest days.
As World War II reaches its final, desperate throes, Captain Edward Hume and his battle-hardened squad of bomb disposal experts—the Kaboom Boys—move methodically through the shattered remnants of Europe. While working to maintain steady hands and unwavering focus, they neutralize the silent killers left in war's wake, each defused bomb a small victory against chaos.
As the Allies liberate France, Hume finds an unexpected connection in a field hospital—a sharp-witted, dedicated Army nurse named Virginia who sees the man beneath the uniform. Their paths cross again in newly freed Paris, where war momentarily fades into something resembling a future.
But war does not wait for love.
Duty calls the Kaboom Boys back to the front, and deeper into Nazi Germany, where the devastation left in the war’s wake is impossible to ignore. Their journey brings them to Dachau as they are tasked with aiding in the camp’s liberation. The team quickly realizes that the terror and reality of the place are beyond anything they have seen or known before. And there, among the survivors and remnants of suffering, The Kaboom Boys meet a man whose inner strength defies the very war meant to break him: The Blacksmith of Dachau.
From Elaine Hume Peake and Don Keith comes a powerful and deeply human story of courage, survival, and the choices that define us. The Blacksmith of Dachau is a testament to the power of the human spirit—even in history’s most tragic setting.
