Benjamin Franklin once said that “Nothing is certain but death and taxes” and he was right. Yet, how much attention do we pay to the tax systems in our country and, more importantly, how much do we understand? In her new novel, The Whiteness of Wealth: How the Tax System Impoverishes Black Americans--And How We Can Fix It, Dorothy A. Brown takes a look at the American tax system and the racial inequalities embedded within.
Dorothy A. Brown was born in 1960 in the Bronx. She grew up with her father and mother in a working-class family. Growing up, Brown was inspired by her parents' commitment to working hard despite the prejudices they had suffered. After Brown graduated from New York University School of Law, she started doing her parents' tax returns. It was this that would lead her to discover that her parents had been overtaxed for decades. This realization prompted Brown to ask the question that no one else was asking- why are Black Americans taxed more than white Americans?

Many colleges and universities informally highlight the value of mentoring among academic professionals. Yet scholars often lack clear definitions, goals, practices, and commitments that help them actually reap the benefits mentoring offers. As new faculty members from younger generations continue to face evolving challenges while also reshaping institutions, their ability to connect with more experienced mentors is critical to their vocations—and to the future of higher education.
In Cultivating Mentors, a distinguished group of contributors explores the practice of mentoring in Christian higher education. Drawing on traditional theological understandings of the mentee-mentor relationship, they consider what goals should define such relationships and what practices make their cultivation possible among educators. With special attention to generational dynamics, they discuss how mentoring can help institutions navigate generational faculty transitions and cultivate rising leaders. Contributors include:

    - David Kinnaman
    - Tim Clydesdale
    - Margaret Diddams
    - Edgardo Colón-Emeric
    - Rebecca C. Hong
    - Tim Elmore
    - Beck A. Taylor
    - Stacy A. Hammons
This book offers valuable insights and practical recommendations for faculty members, administrators, and policy makers. Whether pursuing their vocation in Christian or secular institutions, Christian scholars will benefit from the sharing of wisdom mapped out in Cultivating Mentors.

Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve is set in a post-apocalyptic world where cities are mobile, consuming smaller towns for resources in a system called Municipal Darwinism. This book aims to unravel the complexities of puberty, illustrating how hormonal changes trigger a cascade of neural developments that underpin emotional, cognitive, and social maturation.

Moreover, in an era where technology permeates every aspect of life, understanding its role in adolescent development is more critical than ever. This book addresses how digital engagement — from social media and video games to educational platforms — interacts with the brain's evolving landscape. The dual influence of biology and technology presents a unique framework for comprehending the contemporary adolescent experience.
