Summary

Philostratus the Athenian was a third century AD sophist, who settled in Rome as a member of the learned circle of the Empress Julia Domna. His celebrated ‘Life of Apollonius of Tyana’ is by far the longest biography to survive from classical times and it became one of the most widely discussed literary works of later antiquity. It employs an engaging style that brings to life its charismatic subject — a teacher and religious reformer that travels across the known world, from the Atlantic to the Ganges. His miracles, which include extraordinary cures and inexplicable disappearances, blended with his apparent triumph over death, resulted in many pagans regarding Apollonius as a rival to Jesus of Nazareth. Delphi’s Ancient Classics series provides eReaders with the wisdom of the Classical world, with both English translations and the original Greek texts. This eBook presents Philostratus’ collected works, with illustrations and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 1)

What makes a person hold steadfast in their Faith amid profound trials? Faith Against Evil, Bonhoeffer's Stand in The Shadow of The Third Reich, delves into this compelling question by examining the life and theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and theologian whose unwavering convictions led him to resist Nazi tyranny at great personal cost.
While Bonhoeffer's story of resistance is extraordinary, this study goes beyond mere biography. It explores the theological framework that fortified his resolve, asking whether specific beliefs or contextual factors provided the strength to endure when Faith was put to the ultimate test. By integrating Bonhoeffer's theological writings with the realities of his activism and suffering, this work illuminates how theology can serve as a source of endurance.
This study is not simply an addition to the Bonhoeffer scholarship. Its purpose reaches further, offering insights into systematic theology and contributing to a broader understanding of perseverance in Faith.
Faith Against Evil, Bonhoeffer's Stand in The Shadow of The Third Reich, invites readers to reflect on the enduring power of Faith under pressure. It provides a foundation for future theological explorations into what sustains believers in the face of adversity. It is a resource for theologians, historians, and anyone seeking to understand the profound interplay between belief and resilience.

    The Tale Untwisted - General...

The discovery of Robert E. Lee's Special Orders No. 191 outside of Frederick, Maryland, on September 13, 1862, is one of the most important and hotly disputed events of the American Civil War. For more than 150 years, historians have debated if George McClellan, commander of the Union Army of the Potomac, dawdled after receiving a copy of the orders before warily advancing to challenge Lee's forces atop South Mountain.

In The Tale Untwisted, authors Gene Thorp and Alexander Rossino document in exhaustive fashion how "Little Mac" in fact moved with uncharacteristic energy to counter the Confederate threat and take advantage of Lee's divided forces, seizing the initiative and striking a blow in the process that wrecked Lee's plans and sent his army reeling back toward Virginia.

This study is a beautifully woven tour de force of primary research that may well be the final word on the debate over the fate and impact of the Lost Orders on the history of the 1862 Maryland Campaign.
