Sinopse

The English Jacobean and Caroline playwright, Philip Massinger was celebrated for his comedic genius, finely plotted plays, social realism and incisive satire. Following the death of Shakespeare in 1616 and Fletcher in 1625, Massinger became the leading playwright of the King's Men's. His most popular and influential play, ‘A New Way to Pay Old Debts’ expresses a timeless indignation at economic oppression and social disorder, while ‘The City Madam’ deals with similar evils, combining naturalistic and symbolic modes. For the first time in publishing history, this eBook presents Massinger’s complete works, with numerous illustrations, rare plays and poetry, concise introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. O Positive is the long-awaited debut collection of poetry from Joe Dunthorne, and it has all the appeal of his widely acclaimed fiction.Adopting a sunny, genial tone, Dunthorne lures the listener to darker places, exploring death and dread, failure and regret — the 'lounge of our suffering'. Often, he catches us off-guard: a 'whiplash' effect where poems shift from laughter to slaughter in a moment. Impertinent owls, an immersive theatre troupe, ancient men from the Great War and idiot balloonists — such characters dramatise our human fancies and foibles, joining the protagonist in scenarios both humorously bizarre and all too familiar. These performances serve to probe and unpeel the layers of the self — all the way down to the raw.

'I used to be scared of them. They seemed so different. They don't scare me any more. They're just children, aren't they? Just children.'
January 1941. A terrible crime is taking place in a clinic for disabled children. The perpetrators argue that it will help struggling parents and lift the financial burden on the mighty German state. One brave voice is raised in objection. But will the doctor listen?
A moving examination of a terrifying moral dilemma, and a powerful story that shows what it takes for humanity and decency to be restored in a world that has abandoned them. First produced by Tara Finney Productions, Stephen Unwin's debut play All Our Children premiered at Jermyn Street Theatre, London, in 2017.

    Songs of Innocence and Experience

William Blake’s volume of poetry entitled Songs of Innocence and Experience is the embodiment of his belief that innocence and experience were “the two contrary states of the human soul,” and that true innocence was impossible without experience. Songs of Innocence contains poems either written from the perspective of children or written about them. Many of the poems appearing in Songs of Innocence have a counterpart in Songs of Experience, with quite a different perspective of the world. The disastrous end of the French Revolution caused Blake to lose faith in the goodness of mankind, explaining much of the despair found in Songs of Experience. Blake also believed that children lost their innocence through exploitation and from a religious community which put dogma before mercy. He did not, however, believe that children should be kept from becoming experienced entirely. In truth, he believed that children should indeed become experienced but through their own discoveries, which is reflected in a number of these poems.
