My career was being trained as and working as an Engineer mostly for Fortune 100 companies. In parallel with that I’ve also been working on spiritual enlightenment and developing my paranormal abilities for the last fifty years. This unusual combination of skills has led me to my passion of writing about the paranormal and many “out of the box” concepts and topics. I’ve actually written twelve books about the paranormal based on my experiences and research into these topics. One topic which has always fascinated me has been how many paranormal experiences are usually interpreted by mental health professionals as delusional and mentally ill behaviors. My thinking is that most people have spiritual and paranormal abilities and these cause experiences which can overwhelm some people to make them fit the diagnosis of them having mental illnesses. Certainly there are a lot of legitimate mental illnesses which cause the need for treatments by mental health professionals. But what happens when persons having these experiences may be normal and stable in their other behaviors but these experiences are so far beyond the norms of society that others think they are “crazy” and therefore treat them as such? I’ve heard and read a number of stories over the years where I wonder if they were real experiences which might have just caused the person who lived them to have a nervous breakdown. This book is my effort to help people understand the interfaces of real paranormal experiences and mental illness and how to tell which is which. The Spanish inquisition was nasty in the 15th century. I am glad we don’t live in those times anymore. We have our own problems to deal with here. But back then, in some countries, primarily the Catholic-dominated ones in Europe, being called a heretic, a witch, or a sinner meant business. It could mean the end of your life. And often, you had nothing to defend yourself with. There weren’t enough fancy lawyers to stand up to the Catholic Church. And so, it is with a tragic view on the past that we see countless innocent victims being accused of something they never did, with no bad intentions or rebellious behavior, and nonetheless being executed in brutal manners. One of the proponents of this system, and active executioners, was Thomas de Torquemada, a completely insane, cruel man who had become notorious for his methods of hunting down and taking out supposed anti-church offenders. The Underground Railroad is one of the most taught topics to young schoolchildren, and every American is familiar with the idea of fugitive slaves escaping to Canada and the North with the help of determined abolitionists and even former escaped slaves like Harriet Tubman. The secrecy involved in the Underground Railroad made it one of the most mysterious aspects of the mid-19th century in America, to the extent that claims spread that 100,000 slaves had escaped via the Underground Railroad. Of course, from a practical standpoint, the Underground Railroad had to remain covert not only for the sake of thousands of slaves, but for a small army of men and women of every race, religion and economic class who put themselves in peril on an ongoing basis throughout the first half of the 19th century, and in the years leading up to the war. Over 150 years later, that same secrecy has helped the Underground Railroad become so romanticized and mythologized that people often visualize it in ways that were far different from reality. Before the American Civil War eliminated slavery, it was a fixture in North America for over 200 years, and by 1850 a trained slave was worth approximately $2,500, around 10 times the sum of a typical annual salary in that day. As a result, the economic dependence on slavery in the South was an extreme one, and in the wake of the Fugitive Slave Act, black people in the North were under constant pressure to defend their “credentials” to bounty hunters and owners. Between the value of slaves in America, rising abolitionist sentiment at home and overseas, and political debates promoting or hindering the movement toward equality, the era in which the Underground Railroad operated cannot be easily fit into a concise body of principles, actions or geography.Show book
