Summary

Peter Lord, considered to be the greatest living scholar on Welsh visual art and culture, surveys the evolution of the visual culture of Wales from the Renaissance to the end of the twentieth century in this new, single-volume history. Written for everyone with an interest in the art and history of Wales, the volume illustrates some 400 landscapes and portrait paintings, prints and sculptures from artists such as Augustus John, Ceri Richards, Christopher Williams and many more. The author describes both how the work emerged from its Welsh historical context and was related to the art of other cultures. Revealing the many discoveries made since its first publication of the Visual Culture of Wales series in 1998, The Tradition is the only study now in print that encompasses the whole field of Welsh visual art. It is published with the support of the National Museum of Wales, The Paul Mellon Foundation, the National Library of Wales, the Marc Fitch Fund, Swansea University and the Welsh Book Council.
Includes new and expanded material not originally featured within Lord's Visual Culture of Wales series.
Available since: 07/06/2023.
Print length: 400 pages.

"This book demonstrates Case's continued dominance of the field of lesbian performance studies. . . . Case's dense, rich, and complex work very likely will be a central text for anyone interested in debating the changing theoretical landscape for performance studies and queer theory. All readers interested in what the future might hold for scholarship in the humanities should study Case's thought-provoking work, which is an essential addition to any college or university's collection." —Choice". . . this is a book that is enormously provocative, that will make you think and feel connected with the latest speculation on the implications of the electronic age we inhabit." —Lesbian Review of Books". . . definitely required reading for any future-thinking lesbian." —Lambda Book ReportThe Domain-Matrix is about the passage from print culture to electronic screen culture and how this passage affects the reader or computer user. Sections are organized to emulate, in a printed book, the reader's experience of computer windows. Case traces the portrait of virtual identities within queer and lesbian critical practice and virtual technologies.

Considered to be sub-ordinated and sub-prime to the city, sub-urban areas receive little attention by researchers and designers. However, it's the rapidly growing areas outside the central cities that pose the biggest questions of the urban millennium: How can the scattered patchwork of urban areas and social spaces linked by networks of highways and public transportation function as a sustainable and livable urban environment? Answering this question requires understanding suburban spaces as heterogeneous urban areas with distinct local characteristics, qualities, and problems.

Following this path, Variations of Suburbanism explores formation, characteristics, and trends of suburban areas all over the world. It provides insights on common features and differences of suburban governance, design, and infrastructure and discusses strategies to understand and design suburban areas in an increasingly sub-urbanizing world.

The Seventh Star is a deeply personal, unflinching and unapologetic memoir that sheds light on an intense childhood spent on Detroit's notorious West 7 Mile, the pivotal role that the area's hip hop scene played, and the rise to national prominence Swifty McVay and his peers experienced after the massive mainstream success of the group D12.
Ondre Moore, better known by his stage name Swift—or Swifty McVay—speaks plainly here, telling the inside story of how the members of D12 met and how their relationships have evolved throughout the years. He describes D12's close connection and initially mixed reaction to a then little-known rapper, Marshall Mathers III, better known as Eminem.
But Swifty also details the significant struggles each of them overcame in their personal and professional lives—including the bleak and brutal deaths of group members Bugz and Proof—as they rose through the ranks in the demanding world of rap. Finding anchors in sobriety and spirituality, Swifty continues to challenge himself creatively as he releases solo albums and tours today.
The Seventh Star is the unique story of an artist finding his voice in America's heartland, succinctly and intimately told by a creative powerhouse in the world of hip hop.
