Sinopse

The first meeting between Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles ended in thrown punches and exchanged insults. This most unlikely of pairings would go on to have a tumultuous friendship that would last for the next twenty-five years.
Lyrical and unafraid to tackle the difficulty of conveying the lives of two legendary self-mythologisers, this fascinating literary biography explores their intersecting paths, passions and love for Spain. Brought together by the Spanish Civil War and bound by bullfighting and the high life, Hemingway and Welles found their lives and art intertwining for more than two decades, as their fates gradually began to mirror one another.
Pete Carvill, author of the acclaimed Death of a Boxer, uses extensive research and literary flourish to bring to life this epic tale of two of the twentieth century's most formidable figures.

In 1976, Di Rushing and her husband, Sam decided to open the first winery in Mississippi. Their business was thriving by 1990, with eight national award-winning wines, a beautiful vineyard, and a successful restaurant.

But in March of 1990, a series of unforeseen events rocked the operation. After the Rushings discovered one of the tour guides, Ray Russell, selling drugs in the winery parking lot, they fired him. He responded with a terrorizing vengeance that persisted over the next nine months. In the early morning hours, the former guide broke into the winery and released the entire inventory—nearly a quarter of a million dollars' worth—down the drain. Fortunately, his incompetence thwarted his most destructive intention to blow up the restaurant. In his rampage, he broke all the windows, which allowed the gas from the kitchen oven to escape, sparing the premises. Though the Rushings rebuilt with the help of their community, Russell continued to stalk and threaten the young family. As his menacing behavior continued to escalate, the Rushings closed their business of fourteen years and moved to Ouray, Colorado, where they began rebuilding their lives. Culminating in the sudden, violent murders of Russell, his wife, and his father twenty-five years later, this book tells a story of both shock and resilience, charting Mississippi history in the process.

    Day Dream Believers
On 1st February 1963, Eileen and her family migrated from England to Australia. Leaving behind a close knit family and many treasured memories. They sailed on a ship to a land of blue skies, sunshine and vast horizons.
In `Day Dream Believers’ we follow Eileen and her families journey from the migrant town of Elizabeth West to the top end of Australia. Eileen comes from an Irish, Catholic background. Their family life in Elizabeth West in Adelaide is described in loving detail. It’s the era of the hoola hoop, the yo-yo, skipping ropes, marbles, and go-karts.
    Her Dad would say,
‘The Irish are all born to wonder, they are poets and dreamers……..’
Forever searching for a better life and a place to belong, they leave Elizabeth West to live in Darwin.
‘The breeze made its way through the louvres, but inside the house the air was still and warm. I could hear the clicking sound of a gecko and watched as it scurried up along the wall. The streetlight made patterns on the louvres. I could hear a few voices, the stragglers, keeping their beers company as the night drifted by.’
We see the family surrounded by the culture of the time, pop songs, fashions, TV shows, and eventually Germaine Greer who ‘invited me to “taste my own menstrual blood.” It took guts, but when I did, I tasted power. It was not a burden.
And now, with blood dripping from my fingers, I smear the words:
    “You cannot defeat me.” ’
The 1970`s was the dawning of a new era, where the collective voices of many stood in defiance against the social norms of the day.
Eileen`s thoughtfully crafted memoir with it`s poignant insights of family life, simmering in the background of these ever changing turbulent times.

This book consists of two biographies, related to World War II:
Churchill's War - Winston Churchill is remembered as one of history’s most formidable leaders, a man whose unwavering resolve and stirring oratory inspired a beleaguered nation to withstand its darkest hour. Rising to prominence during one of humanity’s most perilous times, Churchill’s leadership during World War II not only shaped the fate of Britain but left an indelible mark on the global landscape. His life and career encapsulate the qualities of resilience, vision, and adaptability that are crucial during moments of profound crisis. Born into an aristocratic family in 1874, Churchill's early life was one of privilege, yet his path to greatness was anything but guaranteed. Despite academic struggles and initial failures, he demonstrated remarkable tenacity, carving out a career as a soldier, journalist, and eventually a politician. His varied experiences—whether charging on horseback in colonial campaigns or reporting from the frontlines—imbued him with a deep understanding of courage and strategy, traits that would serve him well in the years to come. However, he also had a dark side: The Bangledesh famine was partially or mostly to blame on his negligence.
Patton's Push - General George S. Patton was one of the most influential military leaders of the 20th century, his name forever linked with boldness, aggression, and relentless pursuit of victory. His legacy as a tactical genius in World War II is undisputed, particularly for his innovative strategies and dynamic leadership during key campaigns in Europe. Patton’s approach to warfare, characterized by rapid movement, audacity, and the application of psychological warfare, was a departure from traditional military doctrine and left an indelible mark on modern military tactics.

Born to a Jewish mother and Ukrainian father during the final years of the Soviet Union, Yuliya Patsay grew up believing bread lines were a fun way to spend an afternoon, drafts caused pneumonia, and that Lenin was everyone’s benevolent grandpa. After trading pickled herring and Soviet winters for San Francisco fog and year-round produce (the real American dream!) she found herself occupying two parallel universes: the first grounded in her Soviet roots and the second in her burgeoning ‘Amerikanskiye’ beliefs.Irreverent, nostalgic and vulnerable, Until the Last Pickle, is a memoir replete with remembrances, anecdotes, and exactly 18 recipes. It’s an exploration of identity and belonging — at once, deeply personal and broadly relatable — told through the lens of one family’s “totally average” immigration journey.
