1872 From the turquoise blue waters of Polynesia to the grimy alleys of New York City, the chase is on. Civil War hero and adventurer Thomas Scoundrel is working as an investigative journalist in San Francisco, where he pens an exposé of a powerful businessman and is marked for death. He stows away on a warship bound for Hawai'i, wins a sugar plantation in a poker hand, and battles missionary bankers, loan-collecting Tahitian warriors, Irish gang leaders, a ruthless assassin and the most powerful figures in the world of fine art. From a starlit swim in a cobalt lagoon with the Princess of the Kingdom of Hawai’i, to hand-to-hand combat with a legendary South Seas fighter, and a race to stay a step ahead of the growing number of killers bent on seeing him dead, Thomas risks everything for his friends and the woman he loves. Along the way he trades stories with Jules Verne and Ulysses S. Grant, plays a leading role in the birth of Impressionistic art, and inspires a young Teddy Roosevelt to break out of his pampered shell and embrace a life of vigorous adventure. Thomas Scoundrel is no stranger to death and danger, but in Passage to Moorea he faces a trial whose devastating consequences will change his life foreverShow book
A novel with incredible prescience from late 1800's about the perpetual corruption of the elites and out of control oppression of the working class, set in late 80's of our time. Only if the steam could have been released before the revolution! And oh, the dangers of massive revolution. He seemed to predict computer screens and AI news, advanced weaponry, globalization, Capitalism, the collapse of Democracy, the insane corruption at al levels, and the split in society between the halves and the have nots. Some great monologues in the struggle for power and to wrangle the will of the people. It's uncanny how important this message is now in the 2020's, and I won't spoil the ending about what the true possibilities are for humanity. We are also treated to a couple traditional romantic love stories along the way.Show book
Narrated in multicast duet style by Shane East (as Miles), KC Sheridan (as Saoirse) and Zara Hampton Brown (as Bea, Emmy and Allegra). SAOIRSE I’ve scored the ultimate Christmas nannying gig, and my plans include: (1) Hanging with adorable, four-year-old Bea (2) Ice-skating (4) Visiting Santa at Harrods. They do not include: (1) Falling for Miles, Bea’s grumpy, loaded and unreasonably gorgeous dad (2) Miles peeling my top off (and his own) when Bea vomits all over us (3) Accidentally telling him to ‘make better use of me' over champagne Christmas is not going to plan. MILES Don’t be ridiculous. Saoirse’s warm heart and stunning looks may be playing havoc with my heart (and my trousers), but I could never be serious about a woman who buys a Mrs Claus seat cover for my toilet. End of. 🎄Grumpy sunshine 🎄Single dad 🎄Nanny / boss 🎄Millionaire 🎄London glamour 🎄All the feels 🎄Sound of Music vibes 🎄Christmas spice!Show book
