Sinopsis

This is a vintage guide to leather working by Australian writer Paul N. Hasluck. It contains easy-to-follow instructions for making a variety of leather items including bags, cases, and even footballs. “Leather Working” will appeal to DIY enthusiasts and it would make for a worthy addition to collections of related literature. Paul Nooncree Hasluck (1854 – 1916) was an Australian writer and editor. He was a master of technical writing and father of the 'do-it-yourself' book, producing many works on subjects including engineering, handicrafts, woodwork, and more. Other notable works by this author include: “Treatise on the Tools Employed in the Art of Turning” (1881), “The Wrath-Jobber's Handy Book” (1887), and “Screw-Threads and Methods of Producing Them” (1887). Contents include: “Qualities and Varieties of Leather”, “Strap Cutting and Making”, “Letter Cases and Writing Pads”, “Hair Brush and Collar Cases”, “Hat Cases”, “Banjo and Mandoline Cases”, “Bags”, “Portmanteaux and Travelling Trunks”, “Knapsacks and Satchels”, “Leather Ornamentation”, “Footballs”, “Dyeing Leather”, etc. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author. First published in 1901.

For a Better Life, Close the Gaps!We all want to make a difference. But just as you need to put on your own oxygen mask before helping other passengers on an airplane, getting your own life together is the first step to making a positive impact in the world. Franklin Covey cofounder Hyrum Smith shows that what stops us are gaps between where we are and where we want to be. The first is the Beliefs Gap, between what we believe to be true and what is actually true. The second is the Values Gap, between what we value most in life and what we actually spend our life doing. The third is the Time Gap, between what we plan to do each day and what we actually get done. Smith offers a practical blueprint that we all can use to recognize and close each of these three gaps and illustrates how it can be done through inspiring true stories. The 3 Gaps provides the concepts and the tools needed to establish a solid foundation from which you can help make the world a better place.

In The Soul of Capitalism William Greider shows how to reinvent capitalism so that it works not only for profits but for people, too.
Greider contends that the recent contagion of financial fraud and corporate bankruptcies confirms what is wrong with capitalism. Our discontents are not just with dishonest CEOs, but with what our affluence costs us in family stress, struggling to make ends meet, and the social and environmental destructions of communities and natural surroundings. Greider proposes a fundamental realignment of power, showing where to find the leverage for changing the current system. He offers many successful examples and assures us that it is within our power to make the economy work for us.
