Beschreibung

In the wake of the 2020 Presidential Election, it seems to have become “politically incorrect” to raise questions about election integrity. This is unfortunate, as it is fundamental to our democracy that legitimate concerns about mail-in voting processes or other issues of trust be voiced and debated. This book meticulously documents the extraordinary saga of mail-in voting in Pennsylvania’s 2020 Presidential Election, highlighting some worrisome aspects. Though Donald Trump had won this pivotal state in a close contest against Hilary Clinton in 2016, the state flipped back to the Democrats in 2020 in an election distinguished by the introduction of no-excuse mail-in voting. Quantitative analysis is a core component of the discussion—a multifaceted exploration of mail-in voting patterns. The quantitative discussion is merged with an examination of contextual and circumstantial details. The kinds of irregularities that “no-excuse” mail-in voting may facilitate are considered as well. The data exploration reveals a remarkable landscape — a poorly illuminated space from which arose odd statistical phenomena — a twilight zone, of sorts. These puzzling phenomena are consistent with hypothetical cyber breach or election misconduct scenarios, although there is no direct evidence of a compromised election. For instance, a surprisingly large percentage of Pennsylvania mail-in ballots requested by and sent to Republican voters for the 2020 election were never returned and tallied.Multiple technical mishaps tied to the state’s obsolete and error-prone database management systems made the landscape yet more murky. Sly legal maneuvering (lawfare) by the Democratic party, seeking partisan advantages going into the election, cast an additional shadow over the process. The book concludes with a discussion of what can be done to develop more secure and trustworthy mail-in voting processes. Pennsylvania’s experience and the lessons we can draw from it should be of interest to any citizen concerned about election integrity and credibility and ways to bolster these going forward.

    About this book:
The schools of the future are undergoing profound change, shaped by technological innovations, social challenges and new pedagogical approaches. Digital technologies such as AI and virtual reality enable personalized learning paths and targeted support.
Teachers develop into mentors who support individual and collaborative learning. Inclusion and equal opportunities become central goals, as does competency-based performance assessment instead of traditional grades. Holistic education increasingly focuses on emotional intelligence and ethical values.
In addition, international cooperation is becoming increasingly important in order to make education globally accessible and comparable. This transformation requires close cooperation from all those involved, as education is increasingly seen as a task for society as a whole. (Contains A I-generated texts).

C.S. Lewis For Beginners is a thorough examination of C. S. Lewis, the greatest Christian apologist of the twentieth century, throughout his career as an author and as a professor at Oxford University. A Christian apologist defends Christianity as a consistent and coherent worldview that squares with human reason, history, and desire. It offers answers to every facet of our lives on earth as well as answers to our questions about what happens after we die. What makes C.S. Lewis unique as an apologist is the way he balanced so perfectly reason and imagination, logic and intuition, and head and heart. In addition to writing such non-fiction apologetics books as Mere Christianity, The Problem of Pain, and Miracles, he wrote eleven novels: the seven Chronicles of Narnia, a trilogy of science-fiction adventures, and a haunting retelling of an old myth set in the ancient world. All eleven tell wonderful, captivating stories that stand on their own as fiction but that also support and bring to life the kinds of apologetical arguments he makes in his non-fiction. He also wrote two utterly unique works of fiction, The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce, that offer a fresh, highly original take on sin and temptation, angels and devils, and heaven and hell. And that’s not all. Lewis the apologist and novelist had a day job. He was a celebrated English professor at Oxford, and then Cambridge, University who wrote works of literary criticism that are still famous today. C.S. Lewis For Beginners takes the reader through the wardrobe of his complete catalog of writing.

We constantly encounter complex problems at home, in our places of work, and in society at large. Even if we had all the time and money in the world, sometimes no good solution can be found. So, what should we do, especially when we can’t wait? The answer: a workaround. For ages, global corporations have been lecturing small organizations and not-for-profits on how to get things done. As it turns out, it should have been the other way around. In this groundbreaking audiobook, award-winning researcher Paulo Savaget shows how the most valuable lessons about problem-solving can be learned from the scrappiest groups.Savaget draws most of his examples from small organizations dedicated to social action that have made an art form out of subverting the status quo and have proved themselves adept at achieving massive wins with minimal resources. Through his research, Savaget identified the four workarounds that these groups commonly employ: the piggyback, the loophole, the roundabout, and the next best. With vivid and fascinating examples from his life and travels, he demonstrates how each one works and how to know which one to use when. The Four Workarounds shows how seemingly intractable problems—from public urination to the challenges of delivering lifesaving medicine to remote communities—were addressed using unconventional tactics. Some of the world’s biggest and most admired companies are already using Savaget’s research to transform the ways they do business. And these same lessons can also revolutionize the ways we approach the challenges we all encounter every day of our lives.A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books.

    Soldiers and Silver - Mobilizing...

By the middle of the second century BCE, after nearly one hundred years of warfare, Rome had exerted its control over the entire Mediterranean world, forcing the other great powers of the region—Carthage, Macedonia, Egypt, and the Seleucid empire—to submit militarily and financially. But how, despite its relative poverty and its frequent numerical disadvantage in decisive battles, did Rome prevail? Michael J. Taylor explains this surprising outcome by examining the role that manpower and finances played, providing a comparative study that quantifies the military mobilizations and tax revenues for all five powers. Though Rome was the poorest state, it enjoyed the largest military mobilization, drawing from a pool of citizens, colonists, and allies, while its wealthiest adversaries failed to translate revenues into large or successful armies. Taylor concludes that state-level extraction strategies were decisive in the warfare of the period, as states with high conscription and low taxation raised larger, more successful armies than those that primarily sought to maximize taxation. Comprehensive and detailed, Soldiers and Silver offers a new and sophisticated perspective on the political dynamics and economies of these ancient Mediterranean empires.
