The Arawak people trace their origins to the vast and resource-rich region of the Orinoco River basin in present-day Venezuela. As part of the larger Arawakan language family, they were one of the many groups that gradually expanded across South America and into the Caribbean. Their migration was driven by a combination of environmental factors, population growth, and the search for fertile land and abundant resources. Over generations, they navigated rivers, coastlines, and open waters, eventually settling in the islands of the Greater and Lesser Antilles, where they established thriving communities.
Archaeological evidence suggests that the Arawak migration into the Caribbean began around 2000 BCE, with the earliest settlements appearing in the Guianas and Trinidad before spreading to islands such as Hispaniola, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. The seafaring skills of the Arawak were instrumental in their expansion, allowing them to cross large distances using well-crafted dugout canoes. These vessels, some of which could carry dozens of people, enabled them to transport goods, establish trade networks, and maintain cultural connections between islands.
The Arawak developed a rich cultural identity deeply connected to their environment. They were skilled agriculturalists, cultivating staple crops such as cassava, maize, sweet potatoes, and fruits like guava and pineapple. Their farming methods, including slash-and-burn techniques and mound cultivation, allowed them to sustain large populations and support the growth of permanent villages. In addition to agriculture, they engaged in fishing and hunting, making use of the diverse ecosystems found throughout the Caribbean.

This is not an inspirational memoir. This is not trauma porn. This is a memoir about the forces that impact our lives, both good and bad.
Athena Stevens has never learned the name of the doctor whose lack of intervention at her birth lead to her cerebral palsy, but she feels the consequences of his actions – and inaction – every day. The factor observed first and foremost in her life will forever be the effects of what other people have done to her, rather than her accomplishments. And yet, she was groomed to believe that she would overcome any force that stood in her way.
A memoir like no other, What’s Done Cannot be Undone takes readers on a whirlwind journey through Athena’s life, providing a profound insight into the realities of moving through the world as a disabled woman. From being born ‘dead’ to co-founding the Women’s Equality Party; from not being picked to play the back of a cow to an Olivier Award nomination, this complex, lyrical, gut-punch of a memoir is laugh-out-loud funny, unrelentingly furious, and a powerful reminder that changing the world singlehandedly is as impossible as defying the laws of physics.
In What’s Done Cannot be Undone, Athena Stevens, a renowned figure in the arts and entertainment industry, shares her life story, a compelling mix of autobiography and social commentary. Her memoir is a powerful reminder of the importance of activism and justice in our society.

"Truth is a pathless land. Truth, being limitless cannot be organised, nor should any organisation be formed to lead people along any particular path. If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organise a belief. I have now decided to disband - The Order of the Star, as I happen to be its head. You can form other organisations and expect someone else. With that, I am not concerned, nor with creating new cages, new decorations for those cages. My only concern is to set man absolutely, unconditionally free."

Jiddu Krishnamurti mistrusted all religions and denounced the Eastern convention of deifying living spiritual masters. Refusing the role of the chosen one, he claimed that truth could not be approached by way of a teacher and that enlightenment rendered all belief systems equally and inherently useless. Helping others find their way in a pathless land became Krishnamurti's avowed mission.

‘You think you’ve married a journalist, then, horrors, he becomes a politician.'
'Sarah Vine is the Bridget Jones of politics.' Plum Sykes
'Everyone in Westminster is talking about it.' The London Standard
'I take it all back; she's fabulous. Nobody in Westminster can afford not to buy this book.' Rachel Johnson
‘Moving and heartfelt – what a journey. I’m amazed she’s still standing.’ Imogen Edwards-Jones
How Not to Be a Political Wife is an unflinching account of life at the heart of politics, and what it's like to have politics rip the heart out of your life. It’s a story of high hopes and dirty tricks, broken friendships and divided loyalties, laughter and glamour.
Recollections, as a great woman once said, may of course vary, but this is my story, the way I remember it, written with no fear, no favour – and no fucks left to give.
    Buckle up.
I thought long and hard about writing this memoir. I’ve done so not to settle old scores or plead my case, but more because I hope it’s a tale worth telling, not just for those who are interested in the political events of the past few years, but also because it’s about the people and characters behind those events, and why things ended up the way they did.
For nearly 20 years I was inside the rooms of government, a sanctioned eavesdropper on the rise – and fall – of the Cameroon style of Conservatism. At the same time I was building a career in journalism, raising two children and doing my best to support my own husband, Michael Gove, on his political journey. I was both an insider and an outsider; an observer – via my journalism – as well as a participant in the cut and thrust (mainly cut, if I’m honest) of frontline politics.
After my divorce from Michael and the demise of the Conservatives’ Old Guard, that all came to an end. I’m no longer officially a Westminster WAG, but you won’t find me mourning. Politics trampled my health, my happiness, my marriage, my sanity; it placed intolerable pressure on my loved ones, especially my children; it twisted my sense of self, and others’ sense of me; it tainted everything I did or said. I can’t say I miss it. I do, however, miss the life and the relationships I had before it all. These are the recollections of a survivor, but they are also a love letter to all that was lost in the wreck.
In her latest memoir, Sarah Vine, the Sunday Times bestselling author, gives us an insider's view of the political process. This is not just a biography, but a story of campaigns, elections, and the personal toll they take.
