Summary

Delve into the hidden depths of the unconscious mind and discover its profound influence on our lives.

In this groundbreaking book, we journey into the enigmatic realm of the unconscious mind, exploring its hidden recesses and uncovering its profound impact on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Drawing on the latest research in psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy, we shed light on the mysteries of the unconscious mind and reveal its transformative potential.

We begin by examining the nature of consciousness and the role of the unconscious mind in shaping our subjective experience of the world. We explore the relationship between the unconscious mind and language, dreams, and psychopathology, revealing how these phenomena offer glimpses into the hidden workings of our minds.

Through engaging case studies and real-life examples, we illustrate the profound impact of the unconscious mind on our daily lives. We show how unconscious desires, fears, and motivations can drive our behavior, often in ways that we are unaware of. We also explore the role of the unconscious mind in creativity, problem-solving, and spiritual experiences.

We then delve into the therapeutic potential of the unconscious mind, examining how psychoanalysis and other depth psychologies can help us to access and transform our unconscious patterns. We also explore the role of meditation, mindfulness, and other practices in helping us to connect with our unconscious minds and live more authentically.

This book is an invitation to embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. By understanding the unconscious mind, we can unlock our true potential and live lives that are more meaningful, more fulfilling, and more connected to our deepest selves.

An eye-opening look at the relationship between students’ majors and their entry-level jobs.Humanities majors are used to answering the question, “So, what are you going to do with that degree?” The common misconception is that students in humanities programs don’t learn any useful skills for the real world. In Major Trade-Offs, Corey Moss-Pech argues that not only do humanities majors learn real-world skills, but they actually use them when they graduate. Despite this discrepancy, graduates with so-called practical degrees like business and engineering are much more likely to find employment, and they earn higher salaries. Why do we belittle a liberal arts education despite the valuable skills that students acquire during their studies?

Major Trade-Offs addresses this question by following students from different majors as they enter the workforce. Moss-Pech conducted nearly 200 interviews with roughly ninety students from four majors at a large Midwestern university: engineering, business, English, and communications. He follows these students through their senior years, chronicling their internships and the support their universities provide in helping them pursue their career paths. Graduates from practical majors entered the labor market successfully, typically through structured internship programs. However, many ended up in entry-level jobs that were largely clerical and didn’t necessarily require a degree to perform. Liberal arts majors rarely accessed structured internships and were largely left to carve out their own paths, but used their degree skills once they secured a job. This challenges the popular myths about the “marketability” of these different majors and offers a new vision for the future of higher education.

Major Trade-Offs calls on colleges and universities to advocate for liberal arts majors, leveling the playing field for students as they plan for entry-level work.

A searing chronicle of ambition, brutality, and collapse, Broken Supremacy: The Rise and Fall of the Wehrmacht in Russia reveals the untold dimensions of the most catastrophic military campaign in modern history.
At the height of its power, the Wehrmacht was celebrated as an unstoppable force, an army honed on lightning victories, driven by a doctrine of speed and annihilation. Yet on the vast, unforgiving battlefields of the Eastern Front, that supremacy was shattered. This groundbreaking work peels back the myths to expose the flawed strategies, fatal hubris, and relentless resistance that led to the Wehrmacht’s disintegration against the Soviet war machine.
Drawing on newly unearthed archives, soldiers’ testimonies, and penetrating analysis, the book traces the Wehrmacht’s trajectory from its initial triumphs in 1941 to its devastating reversals at Stalingrad, Kursk, and beyond. It examines the interplay between ideology and strategy, the limitations of military innovation, and the human toll of a conflict that claimed millions of lives. More than a military history, it is an unflinching portrait of a regime’s overreach and the resilience of those who resisted it.
Written with cinematic immediacy and scholarly authority, Broken Supremacy illuminates how the Wehrmacht’s rise carried the seeds of its downfall, and why its defeat in Russia sealed the fate of Nazi Germany itself.
