Sinossi

"Tennis Mastery: The Inner Game" is an essential guide for tennis players of all levels looking to unlock their full potential and achieve greatness on the court. This comprehensive book transcends the physical aspects of the game, delving into the realm of mental training and self-awareness to provide players with the tools they need to overcome mental obstacles, build resilience, and cultivate a winning mindset.

Written in a clear and engaging style, "Tennis Mastery: The Inner Game" begins by introducing the concept of the "inner game," a paradigm shift that focuses on the internal world of the player rather than external factors like opponents and scores. Players are guided through a journey of self-discovery, learning to cultivate self-awareness, control self-talk, and develop a laser-like focus on the present moment.

The book emphasizes the importance of mental toughness and resilience in achieving tennis mastery. Players are provided with practical strategies for building mental strength, including visualization techniques, breathing exercises, and mindfulness practices. By mastering the mental game, players can overcome performance anxiety, maintain composure under pressure, and perform at their best when it matters most.

Furthermore, "Tennis Mastery: The Inner Game" explores the significance of relaxation and rhythm in achieving peak performance. Players are introduced to techniques for deep relaxation, allowing them to access the flow state, a state of heightened focus and effortless execution. By cultivating a natural rhythm and timing, players can achieve consistency, power, and control in their strokes.

The book also highlights the importance of practice and continuous improvement. Players are encouraged to set realistic goals, track their progress, and seek feedback from coaches and peers. By engaging in deliberate practice and analyzing their performance, players can identify areas for improvement and refine their technique.

"Tennis Mastery: The Inner Game" is more than just a tennis instruction manual; it is a guide to personal growth and self-discovery. By embracing the principles outlined in this book, players can transcend the limitations of their physical abilities and achieve greatness both on and off the court.

Dick Carter: Yacht Designer - In...

Not many 'amateur' yacht designers would dare to enter the first boat they had ever designed into the epic offshore Fastnet Race, let alone with the intention of winning it. But that is what Dick Carter did in 1964, beating all 151 other yachts, some sailed by the most notable sailors of the day. He repeated the feat 4 years later with another of his own designs (which also won the Admiral's Cup that year as top boat and top team), but by then he could certainly not be described as an 'amateur' yacht designer. His radical innovations created fast and comfortable boats which were much in demand in this, the golden age of offshore racing. They were commissioned by the top sailors and succeeded in winning the Admiral's Cup, Southern Cross Series, One Ton Cup, Two Ton Cup and many of the biggest races. He even went on to design the massive 128-foot Vendredi Treize for Jean-Yves Terlain to sail single-handed in the 1972 OSTAR (trans-Atlantic) race – the longest boat ever to have been raced single-handed. But after just a decade at the top of his game, he quit the world of sailing and moved on to other challenges. He hadn't been heard of for so long that sailors assumed he was dead. His surprise appearance at the funeral of Ted Hood gave rise to the suggestion that he wrote this book. It is beautifully produced with many fabulous photographs and boat plans and was first published in the US by Seapoint Books and is now published in the UK by Fernhurst Books. While his career as a yacht designer may have been brief, the impact of his innovations has lasted the test of time. Who today would think of an offshore yacht without internal halyards in the mast or that the rudder always had to be fixed to the keel? These concepts, and many more, were first introduced by Dick Carter.

World in Their Hands - The Story...

Shortlisted for the Sunday Times Rugby Book of the Year 2023 World in their Hands recounts the remarkable events that led to a group of friends from south-west London staging the inaugural Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991. The tournament was held just 13 years after teams from University College London and King’s contested a match that catalysed the growth of the women’s game in the UK, and the organisers overcame myriad obstacles before, during and after the World Cup. Those challenges, which included ingrained misogyny, motherhood, a recession, the Gulf War and the collapse of the Soviet Union, provide a fitting framing device for a book that celebrates female achievement in the face of adversity. Although ostensibly a story about women’s rugby, this is a tale that has rare crossover appeal. It is not only the account of a group of inspirational women who took on the institutional misogyny that existed in rugby clubs across the globe to put on a first ever Women’s Rugby World Cup. It is also the compelling and relatable tale of how those women, their peers and others in the generations before them, reshaped the idea of what it means to be a woman, finding acceptance and friendship on boggy rugby pitches. At the time, with the men’s game tying itself up in knots about professionalism and apartheid, these women were a breath of fresh air. Three decades on, their achievements deserve to be highlighted to a wider audience.

    Underwater - The Greed-Soaked...

While the celebrity victims of Dr. Larry Nassar and the USA Gymnastics sexual abuse scandals rightly got a lot of attention, the number of affected kids is far more numerous in swimming. Underwater tells the almost unbelievable story, in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, Latin America, and the Middle East, of coaches who preyed on children while hopping from program to program, state to state, and even country to country, in a pattern similar to the pedophile priests of the Catholic Church.

Irvin Muchnick, an experienced investigative reporter of the dark side of our popular sports entertainments, gained access to thousands of pages of FBI files and other sources to expose scores of such scenarios, as well as the inaction of bureaucrats and even the most highly regarded politicians. The ranks of abusers include some of the most famous and celebrated coaches in swimming history. And there’s no fixing the problem, the author says, so long as hundreds of thousands of young swimmers annually — elite and casual athletes alike — remain at the mercy of the Olympic system’s money-hungry priorities.

    Volleyball Victory - Techniques...

Volleyball is a dynamic and fast-paced sport that has captivated players and fans worldwide. Originally invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan, the game was designed as a less physically demanding alternative to basketball. Over time, volleyball evolved into a highly strategic and physically intense sport played both recreationally and competitively across the globe.
The objective of volleyball is simple—two teams compete to score points by sending the ball over the net and landing it in the opposing team's court. Each team has six players on the court, and they must work together to execute plays within three touches: a pass, a set, and an attack. This structure makes teamwork and communication essential elements of the game.
Understanding the basic rules and regulations is crucial for new players. Matches are typically played in a best-of-five set format, with each set requiring a team to reach 25 points with at least a two-point lead. The fifth set, if needed, is played to 15 points. Rally scoring is used, meaning a point is awarded on every serve, regardless of which team served. Faults, such as carrying the ball, stepping over the service line, or touching the net, result in points for the opposing team.
