Summary

In a world scarred by conflict, reconciliation seems like an impossible dream. But what if former enemies could find the courage to confront their past and forge new bonds of friendship?

Never Too Late to Mend tells the extraordinary stories of former enemy combatants who have done just that. From soldiers who fought on opposite sides of the battlefield to civilians who have suffered the horrors of war, these individuals have found a way to heal the wounds of the past and build a more peaceful future.

Through their firsthand accounts, we witness the transformative power of forgiveness, the importance of human connection, and the resilience of the human spirit. These are stories of courage, compassion, and the unwavering belief that it is possible to overcome even the deepest divides.

Their journeys are not without challenges. They have had to confront their own prejudices and biases, grapple with the pain of loss, and overcome the stigma associated with being a former enemy. But through their unwavering commitment to reconciliation, they have found a way to move forward, to let go of the past, and to embrace a future filled with hope.

These are stories that need to be told, stories that have the power to change hearts and minds, and to inspire us all to work towards a more peaceful future. A Short History of European Law brings to life 2,500 years of legal history, tying current norms to the circumstances of their conception. Tamar Herzog describes how successive legal systems built upon one another, from ancient times through the European Union. Roman law formed the backbone of each configuration, though the way it was used and reshaped varied dramatically from one century and place to the next. Only by considering Continental civil law and English common law together do we see how they drew from and enriched this shared tradition.

"Facing America's Greatest Enemy" by Rich Germaine delves into the pervasive issue of apathy within American society, exploring its historical roots, psychological underpinnings, and extensive impact on various facets of life. The book opens with a compelling introduction that frames apathy and indifference as a silent yet formidable adversary threatening the foundations of democracy and societal progress. Germaine traces the emergence of apathy from post-revolutionary disinterest to contemporary political indifference, emphasizing how crises and prosperity alike have fostered disengagement.
Germaine provides historical examples, such as the rise of Nazi Germany and the low voter participation in recent U.S. elections, to underscore the dire consequences of public disengagement.
In the digital age, the paradox of connectivity is examined, where social media's potential to mobilize is countered by the overwhelming influx of information, leading to 'slacktivism'—a superficial form of engagement. The manuscript also addresses the role of education in combating apathy, advocating for curricula that foster critical thinking, empathy, and active citizenship.
Parental apathy is explored as a significant factor in children's moral and educational development, highlighting the need for active parental involvement despite modern challenges. The author also incorporates a biblical worldview, urging Christians to act against apathy through faith-driven engagement and community building.
Concluding with actionable steps, calling for a collective commitment to rekindle civic engagement and counter the inertia threatening American self-government. This comprehensive exploration offers a roadmap for individuals and communities to overcome apathy and foster a more involved, empathic, and active society.

Zeus is a god of apparent paradox: sublimely regal yet ridiculously fickle, a giver of laws but a slave to his own passions, a being of incredible power who is desperate to possess that which he cannot have. As the leader of the Greek pantheon on Mount Olympus, Zeus was the god of kingship (and the associated elements of law, oaths, the state and the protection of property) and the god of storms, controlling lightning, wind and thunder.
In many ways, one of ancient Greece’s most complex gods is also the most understandable, since he seems so human, and because there is plenty of information about him that survived, including the original legends about his birth, his early deeds and his many relationships with other gods, lovers, and humans. Furthermore, scholars have been able to analyze the historical roots of "Zeus" as a concept, identifying what gods he is related to among other cultures, where the legends of Zeus originated, and what this information says about the ancient Greeks.
One of the reasons Zeus remains one of the most recognizable gods in history is because of the spread of his influence. Due to the conquests of Alexander the Great, Zeus was brought along with other elements of Hellenization to Egypt and the Near East, and a few centuries later, Rome all but adopted him as their own chief god, Jupiter. From there, he was exported around the Roman Empire and fused with numerous other local gods in the process. Ultimately, Zeus was a prominent god from the period of pre-recorded history until the Christianization of Greece, which was complete by the early 7th century A.D.
