Sinossi

In a city veiled in shadows, where justice falters and corruption thrives, Officer Sarah Lawson stands at the precipice of a moral abyss. Haunted by the rampant misconduct she witnesses within the police department, she finds herself torn between her sworn duty and her conscience.

As Sarah delves deeper into the labyrinth of corruption, she uncovers a web of deceit that reaches the highest echelons of power. Officers manipulate evidence, abuse their authority, and shield one another from accountability, leaving the innocent to suffer and the guilty to roam free.

Driven by a relentless pursuit of truth and justice, Sarah embarks on a perilous journey to expose the rot that has infected the heart of the city. She becomes a whistleblower, risking her career, her safety, and even her life to shed light on the darkness that has consumed the police department.

Sarah's courageous actions ignite a firestorm of controversy, dividing the city and forcing the authorities to confront the uncomfortable truth. As she faces relentless attacks from within the department and powerful figures who seek to silence her, Sarah's determination remains unwavering.

"Conscience vs. Corruption" is a gripping tale that delves into the depths of human nature, exploring the struggle between duty, loyalty, and morality. It shines a light on the corrosive effects of corruption, the importance of speaking out against injustice, and the power of one person to make a difference.

This thought-provoking novel is more than just a story; it's a call to action, a reminder that the fight for justice is an ongoing battle that requires the courage and resilience of those willing to stand up for what is right.

This true crime history chronicles more than a century in the life of a small Midwestern city with an outsized reputation for violence and vice.

Gambling, prostitution, and bootlegging have been going on in Steubenville for well over century. In its heyday, the city's Water Street red-light district drew men from hundreds of miles away, as well as underage runaways. The white slave trade was rampant, and along with all the vice crimes, murders became a weekly occurrence. This revealing history chronicles the rise of Steubenville's prodigious underworld from the 1890s to the modern day.

By the turn of the century, Steubenville's law enforcement seemed to turn a blind eye, and cries of political corruption were heard in the state capital. This scenario replayed itself over and over again during the past century as mobsters and madams ruled and murders plagued the city and surrounding county at an alarming rate. Newspapers nationwide would come to nickname this mecca of murder "Little Chicago."

Nobody was ever convicted for the “Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre,” the most famous gangland hit in American history, but it’s an open secret that it was the work of America’s most famous gangster, Al Capone. Indeed, “Scarface” has captured the nation’s popular imagination since Prohibition, managing to be the most notorious gangster in America while living a very visible and high profile life in Chicago. 	In the end, it wasn’t the bodies or the violence that landed Capone in the slammer; it was taxes. After being convicted, Capone managed to continue running his business rackets from behind bars, forcing authorities to move America’s most notorious gangster to America’s most notorious prison on Alcatraz Island.
Two months after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s inauguration in 1933, a petty thief who had spent almost a decade behind bars for attempted theft and aggravated assault was released from jail. By the end of the year, that man, John Dillinger, would be America’s most famous outlaw: Public Enemy Number One. From the time of his first documented heist in early July 1933, until his dramatic death in late July of the following year, he would capture the nation’s attention as had no other outlaw since Jesse James.
The man who became Public Enemy Number One after the deaths of John Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd was Lester Joseph Gillis, whose alias “George Nelson” eventually gave way to the nickname “Baby Face Nelson”. Despite the almost playfully innocent nickname, and the fact that he was not as notorious as two of his partners in crime, Dillinger and Floyd, Baby Face Nelson was the worst of them all.
While the Barrow Gang was no more murderous than other outlaws of the era, their romantic relationship and the discovery of photographs at one of their hideouts added a more human dimension to Bonnie and Clyde. In some way though, the sensationalized version of their life on the run is less interesting than reality.

Everyone knows where they were when Ray Houghton outfoxed the Italian goalkeeper in the 1994 World Cup finals. Every television in the country was tuned in to the match, and The Heights Bar in Loughinisland, Co. Down was no exception. But two miles down the road, three men with no interest in Ireland’s footballing progress were planning a deadly massacre. Shortly after half-time they burst through the door of the bar and opened fire, spraying bullets indiscriminately. As they fled the scene, six innocent men lay dead or dying.

In 2017 journalists Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey produced a groundbreaking documentary, No Stone Unturned, about Loughinisland and allegations of collusion between the RUC and the loyalist terrorists behind the attack. However, it was Birney and McCaffrey, not the perpetrators of violence who then found themselves the target of PSNI anger.

Shooting Crows tells a shocking story of collusion and betrayal, and of a State still willing to corrupt justice and persecute the innocent to hide the sins of its past.
