An American soldier vividly recounts leading a platoon through the most chaotic and significant year of the Vietnam War.In 1968, 1st Lieutenant Robin Bartlett was reassigned to the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). He suddenly found himself at the “repo-depo” in Bien Hoa. His unit had more helicopter support than any other in Vietnam. That meant immediate support was only minutes away. But It also meant that Bartlett’s platoon could deploy at a moment’s notice. And they did.It was the worst of times to be a platoon leader in Vietnam, let alone a grunt serving in a combat unit. Beyond the brutality of combat, Bartlett faced a crisis of commitment as the war rapidly lost support both at home and among the soldiers he led. Fifty years later, Bartlett shares these harrowing experiences in a fast-moving, first-person narrative that shines a light on the horror, fear, anguish, and sometimes illogical humor of that war.Finalist, 2023 Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Writing Awards

Father Charles Coughlin (October 25, 1891 - October 27, 1979), was a controversial Canadian-American Catholic priest based in Michigan. Calling for monetary reforms, the nationalization of major industries and railroads, and protection of the rights of labor, Coughlin used weekly radio broadcasts to reach a mass audience of up to thirty million listeners during the 1930s. An early supporter of Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal, Coughlin later became a harsh critic. Coughlin’s commentary also became more anti-semitic, and he supported some of the fascist policies of Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito. As a result, many American Catholic leaders, as well as the Vatican, wanted Coughlin silenced. After the outbreak of World War II in 1939, the Roosevelt administration finally forced the cancellation of his radio program and forbade the dissemination of his newspaper, Social Justice. In this recording, he warns about the lead up to World War II.

When speaking to groups, one of the sure-fire techniques that you can employ to be effective is the use of stories. Stories have intrigued mankind since our earliest days as cave dwellers. Regardless of what you're trying to achieve, telling the audience a story increases their propensity to be attentive.
In this captivating session, professional speaker Jeff Davidson, who has addressed nearly eight hundred audiences in forty-six states of the union and in six foreign countries, lays out exactly what it takes to effectively use stories with your audiences. Davidson, who has also written fifty-six books, uses his own signature story about the time he saw Katherine Hepburn in a play at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, to illustrate the points he makes. The result is an enjoyable, practical, informative program that will inspire you to begin using stories with your audiences, so that you can reap the associated benefits.
