Guidebook of walking and cycling routes in County Durham. The 40 day-walks, ranging between 3 and 11 mile in length, explore all corners of this varied county. The selected walks take in highlights such as Beamish, Durham City, Tan Hill and High Force.
Featuring OS mapping, step-by-step route descriptions, as well as information on the history of the region, the guidebook details everything you need to walk in the region.
The 10 cycle routes range between 5 and 34 miles long, and many of the routes can be linked together to create longer rides perhaps taken over a few days. All of the cycle routes are on old railway trackbeds that offer a network of traffic free paths for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. County Durham is remarkably varied - wild moorlands, gentle countryside, riverside walks, nature reserves, heritage sites, railway paths and the low cliff coast, passing Roman forts, ancient churches and castles.
