Summary

In today’s fast-paced and often unpredictable work environment, a strong, cohesive team is the cornerstone of success. Whether you’re in a small start-up or a large corporation, the ability to work together effectively, with trust, collaboration, and shared goals, is essential for achieving long-term objectives. This is where team building comes into play.
Team building isn’t just about gathering employees for a day of fun or team-building exercises; it’s about creating a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, and effective communication that permeates everything a team does. It’s about understanding the dynamics of a group, recognising each person’s strengths, and using that knowledge to achieve collective success.
The impact of a well-built team goes far beyond increased productivity. A cohesive team fosters innovation, encourages problem-solving, and strengthens morale. Teams that are united are more adaptable to change, better equipped to handle challenges, and more likely to support each other during times of stress.
This booklet aims to explore the various aspects of team building, from understanding team rôles and dynamics to implementing effective communication and conflict resolution strategies. It will also delve into the practical elements of team building, such as setting clear goals, sustaining motivation, and leveraging technology to enhance collaboration — particularly in remote and hybrid environments.
Whether you’re a team leader, manager, or a team member, the concepts and strategies shared in this booklet will help you build and maintain a high-performing, resilient team. Through team-building activities, open dialogue, and a commitment to continuous improvement, teams can unlock their full potential and achieve results that exceed expectations.
Let’s explore how you can create a stronger, more connected team that thrives in any environment.

Award-winning, bestselling author Scott Mautz defines mental strength as the ability to self-regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to achieve exceptional outcomes, despite adversity. It's the leadership superpower of our times. Mentally strong leaders are in control of themselves and their environment; they have endurance, are disciplined, and external stressors make their decision-making sharper.

The Mentally Strong Leader gives listeners a mental exercise plan to become such a leader. Listeners will walk away with a menu of over fifty proven tools they can choose from to build a tailored set of habits in six areas that will make them mentally stronger: fortitude, decision-making, confidence, goal-focus, boldness, and messaging.

Inspired by Mautz's hit LinkedIn Learning course, "10 Habits of Mentally Strong People," his twenty-five years leading some of Procter & Gamble's multi-billion-dollar businesses, and over thirty years of studying this topic, The Mentally Strong Leader relies on data and research, habit-building science, and practical tools and exercises to create enduring understandings for listeners. Mautz begins with an explanation of the power of mental strength and offers a Mental Strength Self-Assessment. He finishes by providing a Mental Action Plan (MAP) to help listeners create their own, tailored practice.

From the close of trading on Tuesday, October 13, 1987, to the close of trading on October 19, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ("Dow") fell 769 points or 31 percent. On October 19, 1987, alone, the Dow fell by 508 points or 22.6 percent. Since the early 1920's, only the drop of 12.8 percent in the Dow on October 28, 1929 and the fall of 11.7 percent the following day, which together constituted the Crash of 1929, approached the October 19 decline in magnitude. The events of October demonstrated an unusual frailty in the markets. Only 3 percent of the total shares of publicly traded stock in the U.S. changed hands during this period, but it resulted in the loss in stock value of $1 trillion ($2.239 trillion 2019 equivalent). That such a relatively small transaction volume could produce such a large loss in value over such a short time span led to the rapid appointment of the Presidential Commission on Market Mechanisms by Ronald Reagan. The report of the task force, chaired by Treasury Secretary Nicholas Brady and completed in a few months, focused on the individual marketplaces and the interrelationship of existing market mechanisms, including the instruments traded, the strategies employed, regulatory structures, and electronic market information systems. The resulting publication came to be known as "The Brady Report" and it led to significant public policy regulating securities and other financial instruments during a period of broad technological change in society.
