Summary

"Rare Fern Species" offers an unprecedented exploration of often-overlooked botanical treasures, combining scientific research with practical cultivation guidance. This comprehensive guide examines over 200 rare fern species, documenting their natural habitats, growth requirements, and cultivation techniques across diverse environments.

Drawing from extensive field research spanning five continents, the book presents groundbreaking insights into these ancient plants, including newly discovered varieties and endangered species facing habitat loss. The book's systematic approach progresses logically from fundamental fern biology through to advanced cultivation practices. Beginning with essential botanical concepts and evolutionary adaptations, it moves into detailed habitat-specific cataloging before culminating in specialized propagation methods and problem-solving strategies.

Particularly noteworthy is its thorough examination of substrate composition, humidity levels, and light requirements - critical factors that often challenge successful rare fern cultivation. What sets this work apart is its seamless integration of scientific research with practical application, incorporating collaborative studies from botanical gardens worldwide and previously unpublished data on fern genetics and adaptation mechanisms.

The book serves multiple audiences, from conservation specialists to serious gardeners, providing both the technical depth required for academic research and the practical guidance needed for successful cultivation. The story of the Liao people begins in the vast and harsh steppe regions to the north of China, where they first emerged as a formidable force in the region’s history. The Liao were a nomadic group, characterized by their mastery of horseback riding and combat, which set them apart from the sedentary agricultural societies of the surrounding civilizations. Their origins are not fully understood, but it is widely believed that they came from the Mongolian Plateau, migrating southward and eastward into the northern reaches of China during the early centuries of the Common Era.
In their early years, the Liao people were organized into various tribes, each with its own leadership and customs. These tribes were constantly in motion, following the migratory patterns of their livestock and engaging in periodic warfare with one another for dominance and resources. Despite the chaotic nature of their existence, the Liao were bound together by a common identity rooted in their nomadic lifestyle and warrior culture. Over time, they developed a strong sense of unity, driven by their shared need to survive in an unforgiving environment.
As the tribes of the Liao people grew in number and influence, they began to organize themselves more systematically under the leadership of powerful chieftains. These chieftains rose to prominence not only through their military prowess but also through their ability to forge alliances and broker peace with neighboring peoples. The Liao were skilled diplomats, and many of their early leaders recognized the value of creating relationships with the settled agricultural societies that dominated China’s northern frontier. This strategic diplomacy allowed them to secure critical resources, such as grain and horses, while maintaining their autonomy and military strength.

Parikramā means pilgrimage. This book is a compilation of all the places of Pilgrimage in Europe, Prayag, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Navadvipa, Jagannatha Puri and Vrindavana that I have personally visited. In these specific places are unique and wonderful deity forms of Kṛṣṇa called arca-vigraha. It is to contemplate, remember and deepen the connection to Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Lord, whom I worship in the form His arca-vigraha, or bonafide Deity form.
The beautiful Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (11.27.44-45) describe the festival of Deity Worship:
“Singing along with others, chanting loudly and dancing, acting out My transcendental pastimes, and hearing and telling stories about Me, the devotee should for some time absorb himself in such festivity. The devotee should offer homage to the Lord with all kinds of hymns and prayers, both from the Purāṇas and from other ancient scriptures, and also from ordinary traditions. Praying, “O Lord, please be merciful to me!” he should fall down flat like a rod to offer his obeisances.”
Deity Worship, or Arcana, is a festival for the senses, because one can see the Supreme Lord, touch His Lotus Feet, dress Him, feed Him and offer everything to Him. Especially recommended for the neophyte, Deity Worship goes hand-in-hand with the other eight limbs of devotional service, namely hearing, chanting, remembering, serving His lotus feet, offering prayers, being a servant, making friends and surrendering everything for the pleasure of the Lord.
Writing about Kṛṣṇa is also sravanam, kirtanam, Kṛṣṇa Smaranam, and it helps to grasp the unlimited beauty of the Lord. In 2023/24 I already compiled a book about ARCANA, Deity Worship, while being trained as a Vedic priest. This freely available book is meant for the pleasure of my Guru, Śrīla Prabhupāda and everyone who can't make the journey to Śrīdhāma Māyāpur to learn the science of Bhakti-Yoga.

“Orenstein is such a breezy, funny writer, it’s easy to forget she’s an important thinker too.”—People
In this lively, funny memoir, Peggy Orenstein sets out to make a sweater from scratch—shearing, spinning, dyeing wool—and in the process discovers how we find our deepest selves through craft. Orenstein spins a yarn that will appeal to everyone.
The COVID pandemic propelled many people to change their lives in ways large and small. Some adopted puppies. Others stress-baked. Peggy Orenstein, a lifelong knitter, went just a little further. To keep herself engaged and cope with a series of seismic shifts in family life, she set out to make a garment from the ground up: learning to shear sheep, spin and dye yarn, then knitting herself a sweater.
Orenstein hoped the project would help her process not just wool but her grief over the recent death of her mother and the decline of her dad, the impending departure of her college-bound daughter, and other thorny issues of aging as a woman in a culture that by turns ignores and disdains them. What she didn’t expect was a journey into some of the major issues of our time: climate anxiety, racial justice, women’s rights, the impact of technology, sustainability, and, ultimately, the meaning of home.
With her wry voice, sharp intelligence, and exuberant honesty, Orenstein shares her year-long journey as daughter, wife, mother, writer, and maker—and teaches us all something about creativity and connection.
Supplemental enhancement PDF accompanies the audiobook.
Unraveling is a memoir that explores Peggy Orenstein's journey into the world of knitting as a way to cope with the pandemic and other personal struggles. Through her exploration of the cultural history of wool dying, carding, and spinning, she provides readers with a deeper understanding of the true meaning of creativity and the importance of pursuing hobbies. This book is a perfect gift for anyone looking for inspiration and insight into the power of DIY projects.

Our audiobook is the ONLY complete, up-to-date, 2024 edition of the Highway Code. Other audiobooks available on the market were published in 2013 and have not been updated.
The Highway Code is essential reading for all road users in England, Scotland and Wales, providing all the latest rules of the road and traffic signs. All road users have a responsibility to keep their knowledge up-to-date. This new edition incorporates new rules on: a) The hierarchy of road users - this means the introduction of new responsibilities towards more vulnerable road users, to keep them safe on the road. These will be known by the 'H' rules b) Mobile Phones - tighter restrictions on the use of mobile phones whilst driving c) Junctions - you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road that you're turning into d) Parking Laws - new rules around parking on pavements. The Highway Code remains one of the source materials for all theory tests.
