Summary

"Trust Impact Factors" explores the complex nature of social trust, a crucial element for social interaction, economic exchange, and political stability. The book investigates why trust thrives in some societies and erodes in others by examining psychological, social, and contextual factors. For instance, it explains how individual differences in empathy and optimism can influence one's propensity to trust, much like how a well-oiled machine requires lubrication to function smoothly, societies need trust to operate effectively. The book delves into how cultural norms, institutional quality, and economic inequality impact trust levels. It reveals that social trust isn't static but dynamic, shaped by the interplay of individual predispositions and social conditions, similar to how a plant's growth is influenced by both its genetic makeup and its environment. Through empirical studies, it provides insights applicable across various cultural contexts. The book progresses by first laying the groundwork for understanding trust, then dissecting the individual and societal elements, and finally analyzing their combined effects on trust dynamics.

I Don't Want to Go to School...

“I don’t want to gp. I just can’t do it anymore.” "My stomach hurts, and I'm afraid of throwing up." "It sucks. What’s the point.” "I'm tired. I need a break. "I'm just fine where I am, in my room."
Since the health crisis, Thierry Delcourt has observed a considerable increase in children who cannot or no longer want to go to school, not only for problems of violence, racketeering and bullying, but rather for much more troubling reasons—hostility, laziness, convenience or opportunism. According to the author, who has cross-checked data from National Education and the CNED, absenteeism at school has increased by 10% over the last 3 years.
This book aims to enlighten anxious parents, disoriented teachers, and psychologists who are overwhelmed by these situations, and to provide an approach to understand and overcome these obstacles that lead to school dropout and, in the long run, to school failure. Each chapter refers to a particular situation, analyzes the reason for it and then offers advice on how to combat this scourge.

How to Steal a City - The Battle...

How to Steal a City is the gripping insider account of this intervention, which lays bare how Nelson Mandela Bay metro was bled dry by criminal syndicates, and how factional politics within the ruling party abetted that corruption.
As a former senior state official and local government ‘fixer’, Crispian Olver was no stranger to dodgy politicians and broken organisations. Yet what he found in Nelson Mandela Bay went far beyond rigged contracts, blatant conflicts of interest and garden-variety kickbacks. The city’s administration had evolved into a sophisticated web of front companies, criminal syndicates and compromised local politicians and officials. The metro was effectively controlled by a criminal network closely allied to a dominant local ANC faction. What Olver found was complete state capture – a microcosm of what has taken place in national government.
Olver and his team initiated a clean-up of the administration, clearing out corrupt officials and rebuilding public trust. Then came the ANC’s doomed campaign for the August 2016 local government elections. Having lost its way in factional battles and corruption, the divided party went down to a humiliating defeat in its traditional heartland.
Olver paid a high price for his work in Nelson Mandela Bay. Intense political pressure and even threats to his personal safety took a toll on his mental and physical health. When his political support was withdrawn, he had to flee the city as the forces stacked against him took their revenge. This is his story.

When the State of Israel claims to represent all Jewish people, defenders of Israeli policy redefine antisemitism to include criticism of Israel. Antisemitism is harmful and real in our society. What must also be addressed is how the deployment of false charges of antisemitism or redefining antisemitism can suppress the global progressive fight for justice. There is no one definitive voice on antisemitism and its impact.

Jewish Voice for Peace has curated a collection of essays that provides a diversity of perspectives and standpoints. Each contribution explores critical questions concerning uses and abuses of antisemitism in the twenty-first-century, focusing on the intersection between antisemitism, accusations of antisemitism, and Palestinian human rights activism.

This anthology provides a much-needed tool for Palestinian solidarity activists, teachers, as well as Jewish communities. Featuring contributions from Omar Barghouti, Judith Butler, and Rebecca Vilkomerson, as well as activists, academics, students, and cultural workers, On Political Solidarity and Justice includes the voices of Palestinian students and activists, and Jews that are often marginalized in mainstream discussions of antisemitism, including Jews of Color and Sephardi/Mizrahi Jews.
