Beschreibung

"Seasonal Planning" explores the profound relationship between human societies and the cyclical rhythms of the year, highlighting how ancient and modern cultures have used seasonal calendars to organize agriculture, structure festivals, and manage resources. The book emphasizes the cultural significance and practical applications of these calendars, demonstrating their enduring relevance in contemporary society. Intriguingly, early civilizations like the Egyptians, Mayans, and Romans developed sophisticated methods for tracking time and predicting seasonal changes, which were deeply intertwined with their agricultural practices and religious observances. The book progresses across three sections, beginning with a historical overview of various calendar systems and their cultural contexts. It then analyzes how different societies have adapted their practices to seasonal rhythms, presenting case studies of agricultural techniques, festival planning, and resource management strategies. Finally, the book focuses on the modern relevance of seasonal planning, exploring its applications in areas such as agriculture, ecotourism, and disaster preparedness. Ultimately, the book argues that seasonal awareness remains a vital tool for building resilient and sustainable communities in the face of environmental challenges, linking anthropology, environmental science, and economics.

The Tashkent-born Russian-American literary critic, editor, essayist, and journalist Vladislav Davidzon has been covering post-Soviet Ukraine for the past ten years, a tumultuous time for that country and the surrounding world. The 2014 "Revolution of Dignity" heralded a tremendous transformation of Ukrainian politics and society that has continued to ripple and reverberate throughout the world.

In late 2015, a year and a half after the 2014 Revolution swept away the presidency of the Moscow-leaning kleptocratic President Viktor Yanukovich, Davidzon and his wife founded a literary journal, The Odessa Review, focusing on newly emergent trends in film, literature, painting, design, and fashion. The journal became an East European cultural institution, publishing outstanding writers in the region and beyond. From his vantage point as a journalist and editor, Davidzon came to observe events and know many of the leading figures in Ukrainian politics and culture, and to write about them for a Western audience. Davidzon later found himself in the center of world events as he became a United States government witness in the Ukraine scandal that shook the presidency of Donald Trump. This eagerly anticipated debut tells the real story of what happened in Ukraine from the keen and resilient perspective of an observer at its center.

“We Philologists” is an early text written by Friedrich Nietzsche around 1874, but it was only published after his death in 1900. The title refers to philology - the study of ancient languages - which was Nietzsche’s academic specialty prior to venturing into philosophy full-time. In this intriguing early paper, Nietzsche describes his fellow philologists’ physical and mental proclivities with the barbed frankness which soon became his signature style. This book is considered by scholars to be a series of drafted notes sketching out the principles of a book rather than a standalone treatise in their own right.

Brahma, is the world-creator, Vishnu, the world maintainer, and Shiva, the world destroyer. Together they are the Trimurti or “the Hindu trinity.” In the venerable Vedic texts Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, you’ll find Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva accurately explained in the context of an exacting and comprehensive account of God and His creation, an account that is unrivaled in completeness and coherence by any other philosophical, scientific, or religious literature, and that is not only intellectually satisfying but also aesthetically captivating and spiritually fulfilling.
In Srimad-Bhagavatam you’ll encounter the important distinction between the idea of “God” and the idea of “Absolute Truth.” “God” refers to any powerful controller, while “absolute truth” designates the ultimate source of all energies. There can be many gods, many controlling departmental heads of universal affairs, but only one absolute truth. This absolute truth is ultimately a person— Krishna. From Krishna everything emanates; by Krishna everything is maintained; to Krishna everything returns at the time of dissolution. This is what is meant by “absolute truth.” Anything that exists is either Krishna or Krishna’s energy.

Krishna’s main energies are three: His internal energy is manifest as the transcendent spiritual kingdom; His external energy, as the temporary material world. His marginal energy is comprised of all living creatures, the individual animate souls. Souls are “marginal” because they can dwell either in the spiritual kingdom, serving Krishna in bliss and knowledge, or in the material world, forgetting Krishna in darkness and suffering. The Sanskrit word for the soul is jiva (“living entity”), and the marginal energy is also called jiva-tattva, the category of the jiva.

    Spiritual Wisdom - The Divine...

Spirituality is the essence of human existence, a journey beyond the physical world into the depths of the soul. It is not confined to religious doctrines but is instead a personal experience that connects an individual to a higher reality. At its core, spirituality is about seeking truth, understanding the purpose of life, and attaining inner peace. Some find this connection through meditation and prayer, while others experience it in nature, art, or acts of kindness. Regardless of the path taken, spirituality fosters a sense of belonging to something greater than oneself.
The relationship between the mind and spirit is fundamental to spiritual growth. Thoughts shape perception, and perception influences reality. A mind cluttered with negativity and distractions struggles to grasp deeper truths, while a mind that is calm and focused becomes a gateway to higher awareness. This is why many spiritual traditions emphasize practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and contemplation. These practices clear the noise of daily life and create space for divine insight. In this state of clarity, individuals often experience a profound sense of connection with the universe, realizing that they are not separate from it but an integral part of its vast and mysterious existence.
Awakening to higher consciousness is a transformative process. It often begins with an inner calling—an unshakable feeling that there is more to life than material success and worldly pleasures. This realization can emerge through deep reflection, personal struggles, or even spontaneous moments of enlightenment. As one embarks on the path of self-discovery, old beliefs and conditioned patterns begin to dissolve, making way for a more expansive understanding of life. True spiritual awakening is not about accumulating knowledge but about experiencing a shift in perception—one that transcends fear, attachment, and limitation.
