Summary

This book teaches you how to build Android applications using Jetpack Compose 1.6, Android Studio Iguana (2023.2.1), Material Design 3, and the Kotlin programming language.

The book begins with the basics by explaining how to set up an Android Studio development environment.

The book also includes in-depth chapters introducing the Kotlin programming language, including data types, operators, control flow, functions, lambdas, coroutines, and object-oriented programming.

An introduction to the key concepts of Jetpack Compose and Android project architecture is followed by a guided tour of Android Studio in Compose development mode. The book also covers the creation of custom Composables and explains how functions are combined to create user interface layouts, including row, column, box, flow, pager, and list components.

Other topics covered include data handling using state properties and key user interface design concepts such as modifiers, navigation bars, and user interface navigation. Additional chapters explore building your own reusable custom layout components, securing your apps with Biometric authentication, and integrating Google Maps.

The book covers graphics drawing, user interface animation, transitions, Kotlin Flows, and gesture handling.

Chapters also cover view models, SQLite databases, Room database access, the Database Inspector, live data, and custom theme creation. You will also learn to generate extra revenue from your app using in-app billing.

Finally, the book explains how to package up a completed app and upload it to the Google Play Store for publication.

Along the way, the topics covered in the book are put into practice through detailed tutorials, the source code for which is also available for download.

Assuming you already have some rudimentary programming experience, are ready to download Android Studio and the Android SDK, and have access to a Windows, Mac, or Linux system, you are ready to start.

    What if the universe didn't begin with a bang, but with a rule?
    In Law & Limit: The Architecture of the Infinite, independent theorist Kiet Anh Le redefines the origin of existence itself. Every event, every equation, presupposes structure — meaning that Law, not matter or time, is the true beginning of reality.
    Through a blend of logic, mathematics, and metaphysics, Le reveals a profound architecture of being built on three principles:
    Law (Λ) — the totality of consistent relations that make existence possible;
    Existence (E) — the realization of those relations;
    and the Outer Limit (Ωₗ) — the boundary that completes reality without infinite regress.
    Drawing insights from physics, philosophy, and formal reasoning, Law & Limit presents a daring synthesis where logic becomes cosmology and coherence becomes the foundation of all things. It's a philosophical journey beyond spacetime — into the very structure of the infinite.

    As you age, you may find yourself worrying about your memory. Where did I put those car keys? What time was my appointment? What was her name again? With more than 41 million Americans over the age of 65 in the United States, the question becomes how much (or, perhaps, what type) of memory loss is to be expected as one gets older and what should trigger a visit to the doctor.

    Seven Steps to Managing Your Aging Memory addresses these key concerns and more, such as:

    ● What are the signs that suggest your memory problems are more than just part of normal aging?

    ● Is it normal to have concerns about your memory?

    ● What are the markers of mild cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer's, and other brain diseases?

    ● How should you talk about your memory concerns to your doctor? What should your doctor do to evaluate your memory?

    ● Which healthcare professional(s) should you see? What medicines, alternative therapies, diets, and exercises actually work to improve your memory? What other resources are available when dealing with memory loss?

    In Hack to the Future: How World Governments Relentlessly Pursue and Domesticate Hackers, veteran information security professional Emily Crose delivers a deep dive into the history of the United States government's nuanced relationship with hacker culture and the role the latter has played in the former's domestic policy and geopolitics. In the book, you'll learn about significant events that have changed the way the hacking community has been perceived by the public, the state, and other hackers.

    The author explains how the US government managed to weaponize a subculture widely seen as misanthropic and awkward into a lever of geopolitical power. You'll also discover how the release of the Morris worm and the Melissa virus changed the way hackers were seen and treated in the United States; how different government agencies, including the National Security Agency and NASA, treated—and were treated by—domestic hackers; and how hacking went from being an exclusive hobby for socially awkward nerds to a substantial lever of geopolitical power in just a few decades.

    Perfect for anyone with an interest in hacking, tech, infosec, and geopolitics, Hack to the Future is a must-listen for those who seek to better their understanding of the history of hacking culture and how we got to where we are today.

    Wernher von Braun ( March 23, 1912 – June 16, 1977) was a German aerospace engineer and space architect. He was the leading figure in the development of rocket technology in Nazi Germany and a pioneer of space technology and science in the United States.
    After World War II, von Braun was secretly moved to the US, along with roughly 1,600 other German scientists, engineers, and technicians, as part of Operation Paperclip. He worked for the United States Army on an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) program, and he developed the rockets that launched the United States' first space satellite Explorer 1.
    He served as director of the Marshall Space Flight Center and as the chief architect of the Saturn V super heavy-lift launch vehicle that propelled the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon. In 1955, von Braun became a naturalized citizen of the United States. In 1975, von Braun received the National Medal of Science. This recording is from Dr. Von Braun's speech at the 1st Annual SOLE Symposium, September 13, 1966, in Huntsville Alabama.
