Summary

Maomao finds herself once more in the western capital. She tries to focus on her work—which isn’t made any easier when she’s paired with not just the quack doctor but the smart-mouthed young physician Tianyu. Meanwhile, Jinshi might be the Imperial younger brother, but the western capital has its own hierarchies, both obvious and hidden. He and the other visitors from the court will have to navigate these halls of power even more carefully than usual, lest they run afoul of enemies they don’t even know they have. Over it all looms the threat of the insect plague, which seems insurmountable—until one man claims to know how to counter the menace. His method is intimately connected to secrets buried deep in the region’s past.

For as psychic as I am, things go sideways far too often.
Hallelujah, I now have everything I ever wanted—my memories and the soul mate I didn't even realize I was missing. There’s just one problem... the old gods expect me to make amends for my absence. Fan-freakin-tasic.
But time lost as the Oracle isn’t the only thing I must atone for. My friend Demetri was stripped of his powers—and it was all my fault. Now, Demetri wants nothing to do with me.
To make matters worse, people are flocking to Inner Sanctum in hordes, wanting a reading with the 'world's most powerful psychic.' Lucky me.
However, one case, in particular, hits my radar and despite myself, I can’t shake it. A 14-year-old boy is wrapped up with a deadly governmental agency and he’s scared to death. And he should be—they want to weaponize his power.
Torn between what was and what is, I'm struggling to fully embrace who I'm becoming.
Will I be able to help Demetri and make things right? Or will my new role as Oracle mean leaving the past behind?

Pax West was only four years old when he nearly killed another child.
Extensive physical and behavioral testing revealed a unique genetic anomaly that might explain his extreme responses to external threats. Specifically, his ventromedial prefrontal cortex – the part of the brain that governs emotions, morals, and ethics – was missing. Neurologists had never encountered such a condition. Most believed he wouldn't survive to adulthood. Some even suggested he should be locked up – or euthanized while there was still time.
But Dr. Alan Kepler, a leading neurologist working with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, had a different idea.
If Pax West could be tamed, he would become the perfect weapon – the very tip of the spear the CIA used to keep America safe. Could he be taught to override his impulses and develop an unwavering sense of duty to his country?
By eighteen, Pax became a Navy SEAL. By twenty-four, he was recruited by a clandestine arm of the CIA to become a Ghost – a man who didn’t exist. His honor and duty to his country were now hardwired into his very being. He lived to serve, finding purpose in his new moral compass: doing whatever it took to protect his country.
But what happens when a mission goes wrong, and Pax discovers that the very man he's been taking orders from for years has betrayed the nation he's sworn to protect?
Pax must do what he’s always done: find and neutralize the threat. But what if saving this enemy’s life is the only way to prevent World War III from erupting?
If you're a fan of authors like Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, Brad Taylor, or Lee Child, you will enjoy this thrilling new series from the bestselling author of the Sam Reilly series, Christopher Cartwright.
