Summary

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: Nathaniel Hawthorne and Dark Romanticism

First published in 1852, “The Blithedale Romance” is a novel by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne's third novel and third major "romance," as he called the form. is set in a utopian farming commune based on Brook Farm, an intentional community outside Boston of which Hawthorne was a founding member and where he lived in 1841.
The story loosely follows the author's own experience living on the communal property and dramatizes the conflict between the commune's ideals and the members' private desires and romantic rivalries.
Part mystery, part romance, “The Blithedale Romance” follows Miles Coverdale (thought to be a mirror of Hawthorne himself), who narrates his experience coming to Blithedale Farm. He becomes acquainted with the group of idealists who live there.
There's the leader of the group, the reformer Hollingsworth. Zenobia, a feminist, is the heroine of the story. Then there's Priscilla, her sister; Old Moodie, her father; and Westervelt, a hypnotist. They all have one thing in common; they came to the farm to retreat from a society they view as rotten.
In the process of getting to know the others, Coverdale becomes disillusioned by their hypocrisies and contradictions...

When private investigator Mike Hammer accompanies a conservative politician to Moscow on a fact-finding mission, he is arrested and imprisoned by the KGB on a bogus charge. He quickly escapes, creating an international incident by getting into a firefight with Russian agents.
On his stateside return, the government is none too happy with Hammer. Russia is insisting upon his extradition, and various government agencies are following him. A question dogs our hero: why him? Why does Russia want him back, and why was he singled out to accompany the senator to Russia in the first place?
The legendary Mike Hammer continues to thrill readers everywhere, even after the passing of his brilliant creator, Mickey Spillane. Complex 90, begun in 1964 by Mickey Spillane, was completed almost forty years later by the writer chosen by Mike Hammer's creator himself.

Broke, dispossessed, and angry at the government after losing his family’s New Mexico ranch, Trace Temple is looking for revenge. He’s living out of his truck when a shadowy militia movement hires him to take down the legendary she-wolf of the Dark Canyon pack, One-Eleven. But One-Eleven is no ordinary wolf. Cunning, fiercely protective of her young, and seasoned in the ways of men, she leads her pack deep into the forbidding desert peaks and canyons, always one step ahead of pursuit.

After a harrowing brush with death in the backcountry, Trace has a change of heart—only to be replaced by a professional hunter and assassin named Murdoch, who ruthlessly pursues his animal quarry while stalking Trace himself.

To survive, Trace must join forces with a pair of unlikely allies: a survivalist animal protector who deploys feral senses and deep wilderness skills to protect the wolves, and Imogen Cruz, a local rancher, childhood friend, and unrequited love of Trace’s early years. Together, they must fight to protect not only themselves and the Dark Canyon pack, but ultimately, the Gila Wilderness itself—the world’s first designated wilderness area.

In Wolvers, award-winning author Taylor Brown presents a suspenseful, thrillingly-written tale set at the burning edge of today’s Southwest, where once-extinct wolves have returned, the land is tinder-dry and fragile, and desperate men seek to reclaim what they believe is theirs to rule.

Habeas Corpus Delicti In the shadowy corridors of justice, where power and privilege collide, defense attorney James Stratton reigns supreme. Known for his razor-sharp intellect and unyielding determination, James has made a name defending the indefensible—criminals who walk free on technicalities and legal maneuvering. But when a series of gruesome murders begin targeting defense attorneys, his mastery of the system becomes his greatest liability. Each victim is discovered in a church, their body posed beneath the Scales of Justice and a note pinned to their chest declaring: “Verdict: Guilty.” For James, it’s business as usual—until he receives a cryptic letter: “Your verdict is coming.” At first dismissing it as a crank’s threat, James’s confidence begins to falter as the body count rises, and a chilling pattern emerges. As he delves deeper into the mystery, James is forced to confront his own past, particularly a high-profile case where justice may have been traded for a courtroom victory. With the help of Sarah Blake, his morally conflicted associate, and a weary detective who doubts James’s innocence, the trio unravels a web of vengeance rooted in betrayal and loss. The killer’s obsession with justice reveals a dangerous paradox: is this a crusade against corruption, or the work of a deranged mind exacting revenge? As the killer closes in, James must confront the harsh truths about his career, his choices, and the lives left shattered in his wake. Habeas Corpus Delicti is a gripping thriller that explores the fragile line between justice and vengeance, forcing readers to question the true cost of defending the guilty—and whether redemption is ever truly possible.

Regency London is not all romance, society balls and dashing dukes - and magistrates' constable Sam Plank is more than aware of it.
In this new mystery set in 1825, Constable Sam Plank suspects there may be a link between a suicide, an embezzler, an arsonist and a thief. No corner of Regency London is untouched by these crimes, as he travels from the mansions of St James’s back to his own childhood haunts among the dank alleyways of Wapping. As his steadfast wife becomes involved in his investigations, and with a keen young police officer now under his command, Sam finds himself leading them all into a confrontation with some ruthless and brutal adversaries – one of whom he had hoped never to see again.
