Summary

Tribal Resource Sharing explores how indigenous communities worldwide have sustainably managed natural resources for centuries, offering valuable lessons for today's environmental challenges. The book highlights the importance of traditional ecological knowledge, showcasing how practices like sustainable hunting and communal farming have allowed for ecological balance. It emphasizes that indigenous resource management isn't just a historical practice but a relevant model, demonstrating that prioritizing long-term sustainability and community well-being can lead to more resilient and equitable resource use.

The book presents its information by first establishing a historical and ecological context, then analyzing specific case studies, and finally synthesizing findings to propose concrete strategies for contemporary resource management policies. It showcases how indigenous communities have adapted resource allocation methods to their specific environments, maintaining ecological balance while meeting their needs. The book progresses by introducing principles, exploring specific practices, and then drawing parallels to propose strategies for modern policy.

This unique approach challenges conventional resource management perspectives and provides a roadmap for a more sustainable future. The book connects environmental science, anthropology, and economics, showing how indigenous systems offer a holistic approach to resource sovereignty and sustainability.

The first edition of the 'small ADHD consultation', published in 2014, was originally created to provide my patients with a quick overview of the broad field of ADHD symptoms in adults as summarised as possible. It was important to me to integrate accompanying disorders and therapeutic options such as medication and coaching strategies. It is not uncommon for the underlying ADHD symptoms to be masked by disorders that develop later (such as obsessive thinking, anxiety, panic attacks and addictions). Only abnormalities in childhood, such as dreaminess or motor restlessness with impulsiveness, allow conclusions to be drawn. Patients and friends were kind enough to embellish this book with their contributions, sketches, pictures and poems. The significantly expanded 3rd edition of the 'Little ADHD Consultation' is due to the increased needs and demands of my patients and the new findings concerning ADHD. New topics such as neurofeedback, medication overview, neurobiological aspects and autistic accompanying phenomena as well as legal aspects and cannabis medication have been included. I wish you many A-HA experiences with this expansion.

In 2018, lumps of frozen soil, collected from the bottom of the world's first deep ice core and lost for decades, reappeared in Denmark. When geologist Paul Bierman and his team first melted a piece of this unique material, they were shocked to find perfectly preserved leaves, twigs, and moss. That observation led them to a startling discovery: Greenland's ice sheet had melted naturally before, about 400,000 years ago.

In When the Ice Is Gone, Bierman traces the story of this extraordinary finding, revealing how it radically changes our understanding of the Earth and its climate. A longtime researcher in Greenland, he begins with a brief history of the island, both human and geological. For the origins of ice coring, Bierman brings us to Camp Century, a US military base built inside Greenland's ice sheet, where engineers first drilled through mile-thick ice and into the frozen soil beneath. Decades later, a few feet of that long-frozen earth would reveal its secrets—ancient warmth and melted ice.

Changes in Greenland reverberate around the world, with ice melting high in the arctic affecting people everywhere. Bierman explores how losing Greenland's ice will catalyze devastating events if we don't change course and address climate change now.
