From the “Queen of Canadian crime fiction” (Winnipeg Free Press) comes the 16th instalment of the much-loved Joanne Kilbourn series.
The latest novel in the Joanne Kilbourn Shreve series opens in the month of May, a time of beginnings when all things seem possible. Joanne’s husband, Zack, recently elected mayor of Regina, is optimistic that he can garner the public support necessary to make Regina a city that works — not just for the few, but for the many. Their oldest son Peter is marrying Maisie Crawford, a woman as clever and forthright as she is lovely. Their lakeside wedding is a dream come true, but when a former lover of a member of the bridal party shows up, the dream becomes a nightmare. Before the bride's bouquet has wilted, there's an act of sickening cruelty; soon afterwards, there’s a murder.
Devastated, Joanne and Zack search for answers. As it becomes increasingly unclear whether political agendas, shattered romance, or a secret buried deep in the past have motivated the crimes, the loyalties of the Shreve family are tested. A gripping mystery with a social conscience, this is a novel of high stakes and innocence lost.

Nothing can stand in his way. Except for the bureaucrats at Town Hall, maybe. Hordes of savage squid are a hindrance, and the police aren't exactly friendly for some reason.
Buff! Sometimes a spud can't catch a break, but Tedrick will get to the bottom of it, come hell or high water.

Clarence Aaron Robbins was born in Brooklyn in the United States on the 25th June 1888.

His billing sometimes cited him as C A Robbins but he was better known as Tod Robbins.

Information on him is either scant or unreliable. He did attend Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and wrote the words to the popular college song ‘Washington & Lee Swing’ published in 1910.

As an author he wrote two short story collections as well as several novels and his often bizarre premises and settings offer genuine thrills and mystery. His works were frequently anthologized and popular in the many pulp magazines of the era.

His short story ‘Spurs’ was adapted by the director Tod Browning for his Universal cult film classic ‘Freaks’ in 1932.

Robbins left New York to emigrate to the French Riviera but was later caught up in the Second World War. After the Nazi occupation he refused to leave and spent the remainder of the war in a concentration camp.

Tod Robbins died in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on 10th May 1949 at the age of 60.
