Summary

Milan, 1927. Nausicaa, a young Milanese painter, has just bought her ticket for the transatlantic voyage to New York, where she will exhibit one of her paintings at the International Exhibition of Modern Art in Brooklyn. On the same day, however, she begins to suffer from a severe form of photophobia that puts her imminent departure at risk. These are the roaring years of jazz by Armstrong and Gershwin, the books of Scott Fitzgerald and Pirandello, in a Milan full of new buildings with Art Nouveau decorations and furnishings, and Nausicaa is a child of those times... In search of a decisive cure, she begins a journey into the nascent analytical psychology with a student of Dr Jung, from whom she learns to dialogue with her soul and understand the
symbolic meaning of her symptoms. Who knows if this journey within herself will really take her to New York...?

𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅?
I didn’t get to say goodbye to my mother. When I watched her coffin lower into the ground, I swore I’d never love another that deeply again.
I didn’t have to. I found solace in the opposite.
Krishna is hard like me. I keep him at arm’s length no matter how much I prefer him in my bed. Together, we can be whatever we want. The monsters we keep at bay to avoid someone getting hurt can come out to play with each other. My life was stable, controllable. Then my father issued an order I wasn’t expecting—a bride.
Ciera is soft, but her eyes are constantly challenging my authority. She has a backbone that only shows when her smart mouth is telling me off. I’ve never wanted a woman aside from the physical release they provide, but the moment my dark gaze fell on her emerald stare, I wanted to wrap my hand around her pretty little throat and claim her as mine.
I can’t let her be my downfall. I can’t allow them to be my undoing. I won’t make my father’s past mistakes. I won’t lose those I vowed to protect.

    The shadows are watching...
Less than twenty-four hours after Hurricane Boris ravages Shadow Island, it delivers one final blow. Two corpses, lashed together, wash up on the shore. Some of them, anyway.
With no primary crime scene, no witnesses, and barely any human remains, Sheriff Rebecca West has precious little to work with. Are these victims connected to the seemingly untouchable Yacht Club, or did Boris’s awesome power simply push them onto her beach?
When the investigation identifies one of the John Does as a well-liked skipper who lived and worked a hundred miles away, Rebecca has more questions than answers. Was he simply at the wrong place at the wrong time? And who is the second victim? And why were his fingers chopped off before he was tossed into the sea?
When another body turns up on the beach with its fingers also missing, Rebecca knows one thing for certain. Boris might have swept the first victims onto her little island, but a murderer had already been waiting...and watching...there.
From its ghastly beginning to the unexpected final chapter, Shadow’s Watch—the fifth book in the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes—will make you question how well you really know the people in your life.
