In Enemies, Marian Isabel Hurrell crafts a tender, thoughtful children’s novel that explores the complexities of conflict, pride, and reconciliation through the innocent lens of childhood. Set in early 20th-century England, the story centers around the Rose family—Mrs. Rose and her four children: Hugh, Frank, Ronald, and Elsie—as they adjust to a life shaped by estrangement from their grandfather, Sir Matthew Rose.
When their more privileged cousins, the Wilfrid Roses, move in next door, tensions rise, and a spirited rivalry begins. Dubbed the "Wars of the Roses," the children's playful battles soon take on deeper emotional weight. As the two families clash, the children confront their own assumptions, loyalties, and longing for connection. Through moments of mischief, misunderstanding, and gentle revelations, they learn that love, forgiveness, and empathy can heal even the most stubborn rifts.
Perfect for listeners of classic children’s literature, Enemies is a heartwarming tale about bridging divides and the quiet heroism of learning to make peace.

From the renowned author of the Popularity Papers series Amy Ignatow comes the first installment in a new series about a diverse crew of middle-school kids who develop very limited superhero powers after a strange accident and manage to become unlikely friends on the adventure of a lifetime.

When a sweet nerd, an artsy cartoonist, a social outcast, and the most popular girl in school are involved in a mysterious bus accident, this seemingly random group of kids starts to notice some very strange abilities they did not have before. Artsy Martina can change her eye color. Nerdy Nick can teleport … four inches to the left. Outcast Farshad develops super strength, but only in his thumbs. And Cookie, the It Girl of school’s most popular clique, has suddenly developed the ability to read minds … when those minds are thinking about directions. They are oddly mighty—especially together.

This group—who would never hang out under normal circumstances—must now combine all of their strengths to figure out what happened during the bus accident. With alternating narratives from each of the heroes and featuring bold female superheroes and a multicultural cast, The Mighty Odds is The Breakfast Club for a new generation.

THE GIRL BROWNIES – ASHDOWN FOREST, ENGLAND 1919
Book 6 of 6 The Legend of the Forest Guardian
The summary of this final book in the series is as follows:
As autumn settles over Ashdown Forest, the Girl Brownies encounter strange phenomena—mysterious footprints, disappearing items, and eerie whistling—that locals attribute to the legendary Forest Guardian. Their investigation (complete with flour traps and night watches) culminates in a dramatic reveal: their mentor Mr. Hawthorne has been perpetuating the myth to protect the woods, using clever tricks like oversized footprints and wartime whistling techniques.
The girls' final adventure teaches them that true guardianship isn't supernatural—it's the quiet dedication of those who love the forest. As winter approaches, they realize they've become Ashdown's next generation of protectors, carrying forward the spirit of the legend through their own conservation work.
The initial opening credit music, “Joyful Journey”, which does run to approximately 2 minutes sets the scene, so to speak, recorder, tambourine, guitar and accordion in a folk/classical and cheerful mood. The closing music, “Bloom”, ends the tale on with more of the same at about 2 minutes and the same musical instruments etc. but more of an ending feel.
The story and music itself runs to just about 35 minutes and is narrated in my wife's voice, Claire, who actually was a ranger guide!
I do hope you enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come
