Sinopse

Faith Warriors explores the intricate history of religious warfare, examining how faith has fueled military action across diverse cultures and eras. The book emphasizes that religious warfare isn't merely fanaticism, but a complex phenomenon rooted in specific historical and sociopolitical circumstances. By understanding these contexts, the book moves beyond simplistic characterizations to appreciate the multifaceted nature of religious violence.

It investigates motivations behind religious warfare, the strategies employed in holy battles, and their lasting impact on religious institutions. This study presents a historical overview of key religious conflicts, from the Crusades to Islamic conquests, analyzing sociopolitical conditions and theological justifications.

The book is structured in three parts: defining religious warfare, examining case studies across history, and synthesizing findings to understand contemporary conflicts. Ultimately, Faith Warriors offers insights into conflict resolution and interfaith dialogue, essential for anyone seeking to comprehend the connection between religion and violence.

Alec Abramson was a notorious player—an unapologetic ladies' man. He lived that lifestyle for years until the day he was reunited with his first love.
Alec was a literal rockstar who had all the women he could handle. But after a chance meeting with Grace, he realized she was the only one he wanted. He had made a mistake by being careless with her feelings all those years ago, and now he had to begin the quest to win her back.
B-Side is the second and final book in the How to Tame a Heartbreaker series. Twin brother rockstars, David and Alec Abramson, find love in this two-part series. The Heartbreaker series is a spin-off of the Bank Street Stories series, which consists of nine books and a novella. You would have a lot of fun reading all twelve books in order, (starting with Easy Does It) but it's not necessary, and each book is a standalone story.

    Lurking Under the Surface -...

Horror can be a valuable conversation partner for the spiritual questions that animate so many of us.

Whether through a movie, television show, novel, or even myth, horror as a genre has always spoken to our deepest human fears and anxieties: fear of death, of the unknown, of knowing too much. Whether you're looking at classic narratives like Frankenstein, or contemporary films like Get Out, which explores racism and white guilt, horror provides a window into our culture and what makes us human. The same can be said of religion.

Horror movie buff and religion scholar Brandon Grafius finds common ground between these two seemingly disparate bedfellows—horror and religion—in Lurking under the Surface. What parallels can we draw between The Walking Dead and sacred texts? How do the stories of Hebrew Christian scriptures and apocalyptic films like A Quiet Place and Bird Box help us find hope when it's in short supply? When we treat them both seriously, we see that horror movies and religion lead us through the same sets of questions. Both explore questions of justice, hope, and our relationship to the world and the cosmos. And both offer us ways to make meaning out of the contradictory pieces of our world—a world filled with so much hope and so many recognizable fears lurking just beneath the surface.

    The Historical Reliability of...

Throughout much of the twentieth century the Fourth Gospel took a back seat to the Synoptics when it came to historical reliability. Consequently, the contemporary quest of the historical Jesus discounted or excluded evidence from the Fourth Gospel.
The question of the historical reliability of John's Gospel is well overdue for a thorough reinvestigation and reassessment. In this foundational study, Craig L. Blomberg sheds new light on persistent questions. He presents his conclusions largely in commentary form, following the principal scenes of the Gospel. His introduction frames the pathway into the discussion, taking up critical issues such as

    - authorship, date and provenance of the Fourth Gospel
    - sources and omissions of the Fourth Gospel
    - points where John's Gospel interlocks with the Synoptics
    - general indications of historicity
    - literary genre and unique audience of this Gospel
    - burden of proof and criteria of authenticity
In his commentary examining the text of the Fourth Gospel, Blomberg asks two essential questions. First, using the recently nuanced criteria of authenticity, "What positive evidence do we have that the actions or words of the characters in John's narratives are indeed historical?" Second, "Is there anything in the text . . . that is implausible within the historical context to which it is attributed, particularly if we assume the general historical trustworthiness of the Synoptics?"
The result is a seminal work for the present day–one that affirms the historical reliability of John's Gospel with intelligence and sure-footed care.

    Hearing God Through The Gospel...

This first book in the New Testament was written by Matthew, also called Levi, who was a tax collector for the Roman government. As you can imagine in this position he was not well received by his Jewish community. It was likely written around 50 A.D. which, from a historical perspective, is almost immediately after Jesus’ resurrection.
Of the New Testament books, Matthew is the only one to use the phrase “Kingdom of Heaven.”  As his record of Jesus was written originally in Greek, his target audience must have been to Jewish believers in Christ. As such he gives a full accounting of Jesus’ life providing his complete genealogy back to Abraham. His readers likely wanted reassurance that Jesus truly was a King with a Kingdom from the lineage of David.
The Gospel of Matthew perfectly represents the “upside down Kingdom”.  One need look no further than Chapter 5 with the Beatitudes. Here we see how God’s view is often diametrically opposite to how we perceive things. Not many of us, in the natural, would feel blessed by persecution for being righteous.
Reading the Bible is different than reading any other book. It is more than a narrative about God, it is more than a story of broken individuals and the trials they faced. It is more than a set of rules and regulations. It is even more than a love letter. It is the very essence of Jesus. It is about Him, but there is more than that. It is God’s conversation with us. It is alive. It is active. It is a 2-way conversation.
When we need wisdom, insight, guidance, how do we hear what God is saying to us? God has given us the Bible. It’s a powerful & intimate way to listen to Him and it is the primary way God tells us about Himself.
