Nyarlathotep is a fictional character created by H. P. Lovecraft. The character is a malign deity in the Lovecraft Mythos, a shared universe. First appearing in Lovecraft's 1920 prose poem "Nyarlathotep", he was later mentioned in other works by Lovecraft and by other writers. Later writers describe him as one of the Outer Gods, a malevolent pantheon. In a 1921 letter to Reinhardt Kleiner, Lovecraft related the dream he had had—described as "the most realistic and horrible [nightmare] I have experienced since the age of ten"—that served as the basis for his prose poem "Nyarlathotep". In the dream, he received a letter from his friend Samuel Loveman that read:Don't fail to see Nyarlathotep if he comes to Providence. He is horrible—horrible beyond anything you can imagine—but wonderful. He haunts one for hours afterwards. I am still shuddering at what he showed.Lovecraft commented:I had never heard the name NYARLATHOTEP before, but seemed to understand the allusion. Nyarlathotep was a kind of itinerant showman or lecturer who held forth in public halls and aroused widespread fear and discussion with his exhibitions. These exhibitions consisted of two parts—first, a horrible—possibly prophetic—cinema reel; and later some extraordinary experiments with scientific and electrical apparatus. As I received the letter, I seemed to recall that Nyarlathotep was already in Providence.... I seemed to remember that persons had whispered to me in awe of his horrors, and warned me not to go near him. But Loveman's dream letter decided me.... As I left the house I saw throngs of men plodding through the night, all whispering affrightedly and bound in one direction. I fell in with them, afraid yet eager to see and hear the great, the obscure, the unutterable Nyarlathotep. Will Murray has speculated that this dream image of Nyarlathotep may have been inspired by the inventor Nikola Tesla, whose well-attended lectures did involve extraordinary experiments with electrical apparatus and whom some saw as a sinister figure.

The last time he saw her, she was a grieving seventeen-year-old, and now she's blossomed into a gorgeous woman. He may only have one eye, but he can tell how beautiful she is. Too bad she's off-limits.

When Kamila's father asks him to keep his eye on her, Reece makes a promise that soon becomes personal.

When the young minister Murdoch Soulis takes up his first parish in the lonely Scottish village of Balweary, he scorns the country folk and their superstitions – and against all their dark muttering, he keeps on as his housekeeper old Janet M'Clour, a woman the whole parish swears has sold herself to the Devil. After the villagers seize and half-drown her, Janet returns to the manse changed: her neck wrenched and twisted, her head lolling at a hideous angle, yet still she moves about her work. Through one sweltering, thunder-heavy summer the minister tells himself there is nothing wrong. But on the blackest night of the year he learns the truth of what walks under his roof – and why the dead should never be made to serve the living.

Years ago, the Academy bore witness to a gruesome tragedy. Macie's sister, the valiant Jocelyn Graves, was cruelly taken from the world when she was pushed from the school's roof by a malevolent shadow entity. This spectral figure is known as Oliver.

He is an ancient, terrifying entity known as one of the October People. Steeped in Native American folklore, these spectral beings return to the Gulf Coast each October, for a brief, deadly three-day stint. Their singular aim? To steal from the living, to kill the living. White stones, black crow feathers . . . innocuous at first glance, but they mark you for death.

As the month of October draws near, the Gulf Coast Paranormal team must delve into the dangerous world of the October People and solve the mystery of Oliver's true identity. With the memory of Jocelyn's tragic death a constant reminder of the danger they face, they must prevent the entity from claiming more lives.

As the team prepares to face Oliver once more, they must unravel the mysteries of the ancient legends and avoid falling into the same deadly trap. Will they survive this return to Leaf Academy or will they, too, become victims of the October People?
