Summary

A story of survival and humanity set in early 1900s New England. Miller explores themes of race, disability, eugenics and rural life on the fringes of society. 'A woman's body is a machine specially designed for producing consequences.' Winter closes in on a valley in northern New England where a violent history is about to repeat itself. The Allen family farm is nearly empty. Only Eddie, the youngest son, remains, living with his family's ghosts near the woods he loves. In those woods he meets Jeanne Delaney, a girl he's known all his life, now turning into a woman. This is not the first time that Eddie's people have come into contact with Jeanne's, though. Their families are already tied together by a violent past. For readers of Where the Crawdads Sing, Cold Grace is a dark historical novel defined by its frozen landscape. Both revenge tragedy and coming of age story, it tells of an isolated community haunted by the ghost of its own violence.

Narrator: Not included / Various Public Domain Recordings Available
    Original Publication: 1849
    Public Domain: Yes
Series Placement: Timeless Terrors No. 61
    Description:
Annabel Lee is Edgar Allan Poe’s final completed poem — a haunting ballad of love so powerful it defies even death. Set in a “kingdom by the sea,” the narrator recounts a romance with the beautiful Annabel Lee, a bond so pure and radiant that even celestial powers grow jealous. What follows is a tragic tale of loss, longing, and eternal devotion, as the speaker clings to the memory of his beloved despite the grave’s cold claim.
Poe weaves together the gothic and the ethereal, transforming grief into lyrical beauty. The sea becomes both a backdrop and a specter — its tides echoing the relentless pull of memory and the undying heartbeat of the narrator’s love.
A cornerstone of American Romanticism, Annabel Lee endures as one of literature’s most poignant meditations on love’s refusal to fade, reminding us that some bonds remain unbroken, “in this kingdom by the sea.”

"It was never going to work anyway."
"I don't even think about that summer anymore."

Seven Trevino is a "bad boy" single dad with a heart of gold and a body a Viking king would kill for.
    He's also my best friend.
A friend I wish could be more, but he refuses to even consider dating.
He's convinced he's too old for me.
But I know he feels the electricity that crackles in the air every time we touch, and I don't care about our age gap. All I care about is that no one has ever made me feel as safe, understood, or desperate to get naked as Seven does.
So when we end up stranded in the woods together after his daughter pulls a Parent-Trap scheme for the ages, I'm in no hurry to find a way back to civilization.
I intend to take advantage of every second of being trapped in a tiny cabin with this man.
Every moment of sharing that one bed...
Every moment of feeding the fire building between us...
And turns out, Seven feels the same way.
Soon we're christening every surface in the cabin—and the outdoor tub on the porch—and I'm positive my dreams are coming true.
But can our fledgling relationship survive in the real world? Or will Seven's determination to "protect" me shatter both our hearts?

Starting with the Milford family, who are convinced he's exactly like his blaggard of a father. Unfortunately, nothing tempts the scoundrel in him more than the prospect of kissing the prim-and-proper-ness right off Georgiana Milford's lovely lips . . .

Now they're trapped together, forced to wear polite smiles while they trade acidic barbs and pretend to ignore the growing tension charging the air between them.
