Beschreibung

Creativity In Teaching explores the integration of innovative teaching methods to cultivate critical thinking and revolutionize education. It addresses how fostering creativity isn't just an aesthetic enhancement but a fundamental requirement. The book highlights the concrete benefits of creativity in education, showing how it enhances student engagement and problem-solving skills. For example, project-based learning and arts integration are presented as methods to nurture creative learning across disciplines. It confronts challenges educators face when implementing creative teaching methods, offering practical guidance. The book argues that conventional teaching methods may suppress students’ natural curiosity and inventive thinking, advocating for a shift towards valuing both knowledge and creative application. It provides actionable strategies, tools, and frameworks for educators to implement in their classrooms. The content progresses from introducing core concepts of creativity to specific methods and strategies, then addresses practical challenges, and concludes with assessment strategies and resources. This book uniquely emphasizes practical strategies and a supportive school culture, moving beyond theoretical discussions. Through empirical research, case studies, and expert interviews, the author supports the arguments and caters to educators, administrators, and policymakers. It draws connections with psychology, business management, and the arts.

These days, everyone feels insecure. We are financially stressed and emotionally overwhelmed. The status quo isn't working for anyone, even those who appear to have it all. What is going on?

In this urgent cultural diagnosis, author and activist Astra Taylor exposes how seemingly disparate crises—rising inequality and declining mental health, the ecological emergency, and the threat of authoritarianism—originate from a social order built on insecurity. From home ownership and education to the wellness industry and policing, many of the institutions and systems that promise to make us more secure actually undermine us.

Mixing social critique, memoir, history, political analysis, and philosophy, this genre-bending book rethinks both insecurity and security from the ground up. By facing our existential insecurity and embracing our vulnerability, Taylor argues, we can begin to develop more caring, inclusive, and sustainable forms of security to help us better weather the challenges ahead. The Age of Insecurity will transform how you understand yourself and society—while illuminating a path toward meaningful change.

    Outside Literary Studies - Black...

A timely reconsideration of the history of the profession, Outside Literary Studies investigates how midcentury Black writers built a critical practice tuned to the struggle against racism and colonialism.

This striking contribution to Black literary studies examines the practices of Black writers in the mid-twentieth century to revise our understanding of the institutionalization of literary studies in America. Andy Hines uncovers a vibrant history of interpretive resistance to university-based New Criticism by Black writers of the American left. These include well-known figures such as Langston Hughes and Lorraine Hansberry as well as still underappreciated writers like Melvin B. Tolson and Doxey Wilkerson. In their critical practice, these and other Black writers levied their critique from “outside” venues: behind the closed doors of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, in the classroom at a communist labor school under FBI surveillance, and in a host of journals. From these vantages, Black writers not only called out the racist assumptions of the New Criticism, but also defined Black literary and interpretive practices to support communist and other radical world-making efforts in the mid-twentieth century. Hines’s book thus offers a number of urgent contributions to literary studies: it spotlights a canon of Black literary texts that belong to an important era of anti-racist struggle, and it fills in the pre-history of the rise of Black studies and of ongoing Black dissent against the neoliberal university.
