Sinopsis

🚢 Before Huck and Tom, there was the river.

In Life on the Mississippi, Mark Twain offers a vibrant, firsthand account of his early days as a steamboat pilot and his return to the mighty river years later. Blending autobiography, folklore, history, and sharp wit, this masterpiece captures both the glory and the transformation of the American South.

🌊 The Mississippi is not just a river—it's a living legend.
Twain's journey begins with boyhood dreams and youthful adventure as he trains to become a river pilot. Decades later, he returns to find an America transformed by progress, yet still pulsing with the rhythms of river life. Through his keen eye and unmatched storytelling, we experience the grandeur, danger, and spirit of one of the world's greatest waterways.

🎩 Equal parts travelogue, memoir, and social commentary.
With humor and nostalgia, Twain chronicles not only the steamboat era but also the colorful characters, bustling towns, and emerging technologies that reshaped the American landscape in the 19th century.

A unique, funny picture of Britain... A love letter to bookshops and the vagaries of public transport.' Richard Osman

Why play to 12,000 people when you can play to 12? In Autumn 2021, Robin Ince's stadium tour with Professor Brian Cox was postponed due to the pandemic. Rather than do nothing, he decided instead to go on a tour of over a hundred bookshops in the UK, from Wigtown to Penzance; from Swansea to Margate. Packed with witty anecdotes and tall tales, Bibliomaniac takes the reader on a journey across Britain as Robin explores his lifelong love of bookshops and books - and also tries to find out just why he can never have enough of them. It is the story of an addiction and a romance, and also of an occasional points failure just outside Oxenholme.

    BLADE RUNNER
THE ULTIMATE TRIVIA AND CURIOUS FACTS COLLECTION

    CREATED BY TRIVIA HUB

Blade Runner is a 1982 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott, adapted from Philip K. Dick's novel. Set in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles, it follows Rick Deckard, a "blade runner," who hunts bio-engineered replicants. The film, starring Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer, explores themes of humanity and technology. Initially polarizing, Blade Runner became a cult classic, influencing cyberpunk and neo-noir genres. Its visual design, inspired by Métal Hurlant and Edward Hopper, and Vangelis's score, are notable. Several versions exist, with Scott's Final Cut being the definitive one. The film's impact continues to be seen in subsequent science fiction works.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

Blade Runner is based on the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. The film is set in a dystopian Los Angeles in 2019, where bioengineered humans called replicants are hunted by "blade runners".

The movie's director, Ridley Scott, initially declined the project but joined after leaving the production of Dune, seeking a faster-paced project after his brother’s death. Scott’s vision was also influenced by the landscape of Hong Kong and the industrial areas of northeast England.

Harrison Ford, who played Rick Deckard, did not enjoy making Blade Runner and had friction with director Ridley Scott. Ford also disliked the voice-over narration that was added to the film.

Do you remember the best summer of your life?
New York City, 1945. Marjorie Jacobson and her best friend, Marty Garrett, arrive fresh from the Kappa house at the University of Iowa hoping to find summer positions as shopgirls. Turned away from the top department stores, they miraculously find jobs as pages at Tiffany & Co., becoming the first women to ever work on the sales floor—a diamond-filled day job replete with Tiffany blue shirtwaist dresses from Bonwit Teller's—and the envy of all their friends.
Hart takes us back to the magical time when she and Marty rubbed elbows with the rich and famous; pinched pennies to eat at the Automat; experienced nightlife at La Martinique; and danced away their weekends with dashing midshipmen. Between being dazzled by Judy Garland's honeymoon visit to Tiffany, celebrating VJ Day in Times Square, and mingling with Café society, she fell in love, learned unforgettable lessons, made important decisions that would change her future, and created the remarkable memories she now shares with all of us.
