Summary

In the large room of a house in a certain quiet city in Flanders, a man was gilding a devil.
The chamber looked on to the quadrangle round which the house was built; and the sun, just overhead, blazed on the vine leaves clinging to the brick and sent a reflected glow into the sombre spaces of the room.
The devil, rudely cut out of wood, rested by his three tails and his curled-back horns against the wall, and the man sat before him on a low stool.
On the table in front of the open window stood a row of knights in fantastic armour, roughly modelled in clay; beside them was a pile of vellum sheets covered with drawings in brown and green. By the door a figure of St. Michael leant against a chair, and round his feet were painted glasses of every colour and form. On the white-washed wall hung a winged picture representing a martyrdom; its vivid hues were the most brilliant thing in the room. The man was dressed in brown; he had a long dark face and straight dull hair; from the roll of gold leaf on his knee he carefully and slowly gilded the devil. The place was utterly silent, the perfect stillness enhanced by the dazzle of the blinding sun without; presently the man rose and, crossing to the window, looked out. He could see the sparse plants bordering the neglected grass-grown paths, the house opposite with its double row of empty windows and the yellowing vine-leaves climbing up the tiled roof that cut the polished blue of the August sky.

There are witches in the woods.
These are the words the reverend of the Lilin Assembly of Our Lord repeats to his parishioners each week. Steve and Nicole Warby think it’s just a metaphor, until Nicole takes a walk in those woods and comes back changed. Something came out of them with her, and the simple small-town life they’ve always known is forever altered when they discover the dark secrets buried deep and those intent on keeping them there. Fearing for his wife’s sanity, and his own comfortable status in the church, Steve is unsure if he wants to help or ignore the problems. The reverend believes there are witches in the woods, and he thinks Nicole is only the most recent.
Conjuring the Witch is a dark, haunted story about what those in power are willing to do to stay in power, and the sins we convince ourselves are forgivable.

For fans of Janet Evanovich, Sandra Brown, and C.J. Box — a complete Wyoming romantic mystery trilogy with a Grammy-winning heroine, a belt buckle, a dog named Louise, and the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming.
Maggie Killian used to be somebody. Grammy-winning country star. Multiplatinum album. A number one hit called 'I Hate Cowboys.' Then came the crash, and the long rebuild, and the antique shop in Texas that keeps her mostly out of trouble. Mostly. She drives to Wyoming in a vintage magenta pickup because she still has Hank Sibley's championship belt buckle — the one she stole when she left him fifteen years ago — and the plan, terrible as it is, is to give it back.
The Maggie Killian Box Set collects all three novels plus the prequel materials (Buckle Bunny novella and Shock Jock short story) in Pamela Fagan Hutchins' beloved Wyoming series. Across three complete books, Maggie survives a stalker with an obsession wall, a forest fire, a bow-and-arrow confrontation on a mountain ridgeline, a revenge campaign by a woman she thought died fifteen years ago, a Texas Hill Country arsonist, and a murder in a ranch dead pile in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming.
Pamela Fagan Hutchins lives on the face of the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming. These are not postcard mountains. They are the real thing, from the antelope hunts and ranch dead piles to the specific quality of light on the peaks at dawn. A dog named Louise protects Maggie throughout every book with supernatural ferocity. She is a series mascot and beloved by all.
The series is complete with three novels plus the Maggie Killian Prequels. Start with Buckle Bunny to understand the belt buckle — or start with Live Wire. Either way, Wyoming gets under your skin.
She had a Grammy, a dog named Louise, and a belt buckle she stole from the wrong man. The Bighorn Mountains were waiting. They always were.
