Summary

Grief-stricken botanist Marina Silva finds solace in the whispers of a mythical Amazonian tributary: the River That Never Forgets.  Appearing only during the rainy season, it promises a glimpse into lives unlived, futures shimmering with possibility. Drawn by its allure, Marina joins an expedition into the rainforest's uncharted heart, alongside a restless fortune hunter, a pragmatic scientist, and a seasoned cartographer, each carrying their own unspoken desires and haunting regrets. As they navigate the murky waters, the river weaves its magic. Reflections morph into visions of alternate realities: Marina, radiant in her late husband’s embrace; the fortune hunter, consumed by wealth; the scientist, celebrated but alone. These glimpses ignite jealousy and desperation, blurring the line between reality and illusion.  The deeper they venture, the more potent the river’s grip, each vision a tantalizing temptation to rewrite their past.Marina finds herself on the precipice of a heart-wrenching reunion with her lost love, a spectral embrace both comforting and chilling. But the river’s gifts come at a price.  As the others succumb to their individual obsessions, the expedition unravels, threatening to leave them stranded in the jungle’s perilous depths. Ancient petroglyphs reveal a forgotten tribe who worshipped the river, warning of its seductive power – a power that dissolves those who linger too long in its embrace.A climactic storm erupts, mirroring the turmoil within the group.  Will they surrender to the intoxicating allure of what might have been, or find the strength to reclaim their lives in a world still brimming with possibility?  Marina must make a choice: remain in a comforting illusion or face the pain of her loss and forge a new path. Her decision becomes intertwined with the fate of the expedition, a desperate struggle for survival against the river’s relentless currents.  In the heart of the Amazon, they confront not only the seductive power of the river, but the deepest truths within themselves.  For the River That Never Forgets doesn’t offer second chances; it offers a dangerous escape, a seductive trap that feeds on their deepest longings.  Only by confronting their regrets and embracing the uncertain currents of life can they hope to emerge from the jungle, transformed and whole.

"The Hound" is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft in September 1922 and published in the February 1924 issue of Weird Tales. It contains the first mention of Lovecraft's fictional text the Necronomicon.
The story opens with the unnamed narrator preparing to commit suicide. Lamenting his fate, he reflects upon the events which led him to this moment. - The narrator and his friend, St. John, are a pair of loners who both have a deranged interest in robbing graves. They constantly defile crypts and often keep souvenirs of their nocturnal expeditions. Since they reside in the same house, they have the opportunity to set up a sort of morbid museum in their basement. Using the objects collected from the various graves they have robbed, the two men organize a private exhibition. The collection consists of headstones, preserved bodies, skulls, and several heads in different phases of decomposition. It also includes statues, frightful paintings, and a locked portfolio bound in tanned human skin.

Frankenstein was written in the Romantic literary period. The literary trend of the early 1800s produced poems that described how nature elevated and blissed human minds. Most literary work at this time was written and published by men.
In amongst these ecstatic reveries of nature, the 19 year old, Mary Shelley wedged the chilling story of Frankenstein into the literary landscape and our minds forever.
Her story filled an empty space in humankind's collective consciousness. That empty space was waiting for this story of over-reaching scientific madness.
This version of Frankenstein is a translation not an abridged telling. I have translated the Old Romantic era English into easy-to-read accessible English.
    • The same characters say the same things at the same times in the story.
    • Plot point for plot point the story stays the same.
    • The themes are all preserved.
    • The transcendent and brutal settings of the story are still on the pages.
    • References to poems and other literature are explained.
    • Supplementary information supports understanding of the text.
