Summary

Zambezi River Rituals explores the profound spiritual connection between the Zambezi River and the communities along its banks. It examines how the river isn't just a geographical feature but a vibrant entity deeply embedded in African religious traditions, shaping local mythologies and sacred ceremonies. The book unveils the Zambezi's role as a sacred locale where ancestral spirits reside, facilitating interaction between the earthly and spiritual realms. One intriguing insight is how these spiritual beliefs influence environmental interactions and the daily lives of the people.

The book progresses by first introducing the Zambezi as both a physical and spiritual entity, then delving into its significance as a dwelling place for spirits, analyzing associated myths and legends, and exploring various rituals performed along its banks. Through ethnographic studies and oral histories, the author presents a holistic view of the river's spiritual ecology.

The study of the Zambezi River as a cultural keystone provides a unique lens for understanding the intersection of religious beliefs, social structures, and environmental stewardship in this History World region.

The word Upanishad (upa-ni-shad) consists of, "Upa" means "near;" "ni" means "down;" "shad" means "to sit." Thus, Upanishad is to sit down near the teacher to discuss, learn, practice, and experience. There are some 200 or more Upanishads. Some are lost and are only known about because of being referenced in other Upanishads. Most of the Upanishads were kept secret for centuries, only passed on to others orally in the form of Shloka (a category of verse line developed from the Vedic Anustubh meter).Taittiriya is a Sanskrit word that means "from Tittiri". The root of this name has been interpreted in two ways: "from Vedic sage Tittiri" or a collection of verses from mythical students who became Tittiris (birds, partridges) in order to gain knowledge. This Upanishad is divided into three sections called Vallis: Siksha (Pronunciation /Instruction) Valli , Ananda (bliss of Brahman) Valli , and Bhrigu (son of Varuna, the god of all water elements) Valli. The chronology of Taittriyaka Upanishad is unclear; it is ancient and generally placed around 1st half of 1st millennium BCE.The 11 principal Upanishads to which Sankara appeals in his great commentary on the Vedanta-Surtras are: Chandogya, Talavakara or Kena, Aitareya, Kaushitaki, Vajasaneyi or Isha, Katha, Mundaka, Taittirtiyaka or Taittiriya, Brihadaranyaka, Svetasvatara, and Prasna. They are also called the 11 classical Upanishads or the fundamental Upanishads of the Vedanta Philosophy. Apart from these, Maitrayana-Brahmana-Upanishad is also considered as an important Upanishad. The Upanishadic literature is not a religious scripture and is free from dogma and doctrines. It is not a part of any religion but is a philosophy for all times and for all. German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, impressed by the Upanishads, called the texts "the production of the highest human wisdom". Summary by Jothi

Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction, and for Gary Renard—bestselling author of The Disappearance of the Universe—such was the case. In 1992, two ascended masters appeared before him to impart the teachings from A Course in Miracles. Before their arrival, Renard had never heard of this modern spiritual text. Over the next nine years they met with him frequently to teach him its complexities. Now, on The End of Reincarnation, Gary Renard offers a practical understanding of the Course's core principles, including: • How projection makes perception—specific teachings from the Course to see how our ego influences the way we look at friends, family, and coworkers • True forgiveness—a thought-process technique to release those who have harmed you—and yourself—from any perceived guilt • How to work on the level of cause to cultivate more strength and power, and to bring lasting positive effects into every situation of your life, and more"I understand now that reincarnation is only something that appears to happen," Renard explains. "It's just a continuation of the dream of birth and death."Distilled for people who have been curious about A Course in Miracles—as well as for continuing students who would like to deepen their studies—The End of Reincarnation illuminates the peace available when we awaken from the dream, and catalyzes our experience of oneness with all of creation.
