Summary

"Like Cats and Dogs" is a multi-threaded, poetically narrated story for older children and adults, set in an anonymous mountain shelter (referred to as THIS place), where a group of extraordinary animals cross paths: a Large Gray Cat named Pepe and Ursa, the Wise White Dog. 
Pepe, an intellectual and a loner who once lived in the grand cathedral of Oliwa, has come to the mountains seeking peace and adventure. At first, he keeps his distance from others, but over time, he forms an unlikely and extraordinary friendship with Ursa, the guardian of THIS place. 
Through the adventures of the two main characters, we also meet Mojka — a cheerful little dog with a difficult past — and Louis, a cynical and unfriendly cat-hunter. As the story unfolds, new characters join the scene: Dodi and Ivan, two young seekers on a quest to find a lost medieval manuscript. 
The tale gradually evolves into a suspenseful detective story about hidden secrets from the past, eventually transforming into a philosophical allegory about the true meaning of friendship.
