Beschreibung

'A beautifully told and deeply troubling story that confirms Devlin's place at the forefront of Weird fiction.'

– Ginger Nuts of Horror

Rob is a Crescent kid. Born and raised in the sheltered circle of grey semis, built to house the employees of The City Works and their families. Under the eye of the reclusive Mr Olhouser, the residents of The Crescent go about their work, their lessons and their law, accompanied by the never-ending sound of The Works machinery deep under the ground. When Lee Wrexler moves into The Crescent, he brings with him something dangerous from the outside. Not just a reputation for trouble, but an outside perspective that will show Rob that the home he always thought he had a measure of is a stranger and far more unsettling place than he could have imagined… Malcolm Devlin's Engines Beneath Us is a powerful and unsettling novella of how the individual spirit is crushed by the pressure to conform, from a contemporary master of weird fiction.

Step into a world where eternal night holds both wonder and dread. In Interview with the Vampire, a weary immortal recounts his centuries-long journey—from a grief-stricken plantation owner to a creature of the shadows—guided by a charismatic mentor and bound to a child’s form with an ageless spirit. Through opulent salons of New Orleans and the grand boulevards of Paris, he navigates moral quandaries, clandestine alliances, and the hunger that defines his existence. As betrayal shatters their fragile family, he forges new codes of conduct, masters survival in exile, and learns that true immortality lies not in endless life, but in purpose and empathy. "The Tree" is a macabre short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written in 1920, and published in October 1921 in The Tryout. Set in ancient Greece, the story concerns two sculptors who accept a commission with ironic consequences.
Lovecraft wrote "The Tree" early in his career. He was dismissive of the story in a 1936 letter. Such stories, he said, "if typed on good stock make excellent shelf-paper, but little else." The assessment of Lovecraft authority S. T. Joshi was that although the story "may be a trifle obvious… it is an effective display of Lovecraft's skill in handling a historical setting."
