Summary

The North African desert, 1942. Recovering from his injuries, Lieutenant Douglas Tulloch returns to the Lothian Rifles just as the tide of war shifts.

With Rommel’s forces pressing deep into Allied territory, the British are pushed to their limits and the Lothians find themselves outgunned and struggling to hold the line. The morale of Tulloch's unit is crumbling, and he must rebuild trust among his men while navigating a war that seems increasingly hopeless.

As the men prepare for a defining battle at El Alamein, personal encounters with the enemy force Tulloch to question not only his adversaries, but also the cost of his duty.

A gripping story of courage, leadership and the brutal reality of warfare, THE END OF THE BEGINNING is the third book in Malcolm Archibald's series of historical war novels.
Available since: 01/09/2025.
Print length: 352 pages.

"Go on a date with me or I'll beat up your best friend." A line that shouldn't have worked, but did. When your BFF is in peril, what's a girl to do?

Jason King is used to getting what he wants. And he wants me. No clue why. I'm a geeky introvert. I must have that just-turned-eighteen, new-girl-on-the-block smell.

Jason is popular. Cocky. His dad is richer than God. He has his crew have dedicated their summer to tormenting my best friend, Donovan.

Donovan fights back with quick tongue and a sense of humor as dark as his clothes. But he’s tasted enough of Jason's knuckle-sandwiches to last a lifetime. Which is where I step in. One date with Jason and the bullying stops. It's a no-brainer.

So I let Jason take me out for ice cream. What's the worst that can happen. Right?

Except Jason's piercing blue eyes send a delicious shiver through me that has nothing to do with my mint chocolate-chip. Donovan is going to hate me for this.

    Contains mature themes.

She'll do anything to spite her mother and find her own happiness...even keep her cowboy billionaire boyfriend a secret.
Virginia Winters is Kentucky royalty as the heir of the largest whiskey distillery in the state. She's been managing the company for two decades, but she hasn't been able to figure out how to manage her mother's expectations.
Cayden Chappell has been interested in Ginny for months, and she's definitely interested in him too. They've attended all of her social functions together over the holidays, but everything is so stiff and formal. He's not sure if he's getting the real version of Ginny or the one wearing a mask to keep up appearances.
When her mother tells Cayden horses and whiskey don't mix, and that he needs to end their relationship, he doesn't know how to disobey someone as powerful as Wendy Winters. So he does what Wendy wants; he stays away from Ginny.
She doesn't call him either, baffled as she is by his sudden silence. When they meet up at a gin and gems event at Sweet Rose Whiskey, their explosive feelings for each other come forward again. After a kiss that reminds them both that their previous time together was real, he confesses that her mother asked him to break-up with Ginny.
Furious, Ginny confronts her mother only to learn her mother has an old grudge against the Chappells. If Ginny disobeys her mother and dates Cayden anyway...she'll lose Sweet Rose Whiskey. She'll lose everything she's worked for over the past twenty years. Ginny suddenly has a difficult choice to make: the career and family business she loves? Or the man who makes her feel loved and cherished for the first time in her life?
Can Ginny and Cayden's love truly survive in the shadows? Or will they both end up broken-hearted if the truth comes out?

There is something about the number 3.
The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.
Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.
Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

    *Duet Narration*
I had no family, no friends. I was utterly alone and always had been. And once I aged out of the system that raised me, I decided to find out exactly who I was.
Where did I come from? Who were my parents? What made me…me?
It became the fire in my veins.
My journey led me to Scotland, the Highlands, and for the first time in my life, I had this feeling of…belonging.
What should have been a simple hike through the Scottish countryside led me to things far more mysterious than trying to find out who I was.
There were other things—creatures—lurking in this world, ones who were stronger, fiercer. Ones who were not human.
Everything I’d ever known seemed like a fable now. And what was once a fable was now true.
It was one of those otherworldly creatures who stalked me—chased me. I knew I couldn’t outrun him. I couldn’t escape.
He was bigger than any man I’d ever seen, stronger than anyone should be. His growls were feral, his fangs animalistic, and when he watched me, it was with glowing eyes.
I found myself at his mercy, chained to a bed and alone with this man who wasn’t really a man at all. I asked him why I was there, why he took me, held me against my will.
And all he said was…I was his mate.
