Summary

'I came here looking for the truth behind the disappearance. What I found was something stranger.'
Meles is a podcaster with a dying mother and a stalling career, and she's about to stumble into something unfathomable. A recluse, a disappearance, a mysterious folk song. This is a story that could change everything – but is it really her story to tell?
Badgers is a shapeshifting, mercurial play: a folk tale about folk tales, an exploration of the art of letting go, and an enquiry into the ethics of true crime. Produced by Theatre Royal Plymouth in association with Bristol Old Vic, Malaika Kegode's play premiered at the Traverse Theatre as part of the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, directed by Jenny Davies and with music by Jakabol.
Available since: 08/13/2026.

Gita Govinda by Jayadeva is a celebrated masterpiece of classical Indian poetry that beautifully expresses divine love, devotion, and spiritual longing. Composed in the 12th century, this lyrical work is one of the most cherished texts in the tradition of devotional literature, portraying the sacred relationship between Lord Krishna and Radha through a series of passionate and poetic songs. 🎶📜

Set against the enchanting landscapes of Vrindavan, the poem unfolds as a dramatic and emotional narrative that explores the deep bond between Radha and Krishna. Their love story is filled with moments of joy, separation, yearning, reconciliation, and spiritual fulfillment. Through these emotional experiences, Jayadeva presents love not merely as a human feeling but as a profound expression of the soul's longing for union with the divine.

The work is composed of twelve cantos containing lyrical songs meant to be sung and performed. Each section captures different stages of Radha and Krishna's relationship, moving from playful romance and misunderstanding to deep longing and ultimate reunion. Jayadeva's exquisite poetry, rich imagery, and musical rhythm make the text both a literary and devotional treasure.

One of the remarkable features of Gita Govinda is its blend of sensual beauty and spiritual symbolism. The emotions of love and separation reflect the devotional path in which the devotee seeks closeness with the divine through intense longing and surrender. This spiritual interpretation has made the work deeply significant in the Bhakti tradition, where love for the divine is seen as the highest form of devotion.

Over the centuries, Gita Govinda has inspired countless forms of art, music, dance, and temple rituals throughout India. Classical dance traditions such as Odissi and Bharatanatyam frequently draw upon its verses, bringing the poetry to life through expressive performance.

Today, Gita Govinda remains one of the most admired works of Sanskrit literature. Its lyrical beauty, emotional depth, and spiritual message continue to captivate readers and devotees alike. 🌸 Through its timeless verses, Jayadeva's masterpiece celebrates the power of love, devotion, and the eternal union between the human soul and the divine.
