Summary

Noa, twelve years old, precocious, a poet, and hypersensitive, misunderstood and a victim of bullying, attempts to cut out his tongue before retreating into silence. Initially admitted to a child psychiatric hospital, his parents, determined to do whatever it takes to help their son, take a two-month sabbatical to accompany him on the Camino de Santiago, from Irun to Santiago de Compostela via El Camino del Norte. The reader is invited into a story full of emotions, to experience their struggles, joys, and encounters, immersed in grand and diverse landscapes.
For the writing of this story, the author invested herself deeply, both personally, emotionally, and physically.
Magali (Mag.B.) set out for 34 days, walking the Camino del Norte, covering 840 km, writing a chapter each day in complete immersion. Between fiction and reality, laughter and tears, inner and outer beauty, doubts and achievements, this novel will touch you to the core.

Six has always been a number we group things around – Six of the best, six of one half a dozen of another, six feet under, six pack, six degrees of separation and a sixth sense are but a few of the ways we use this number.

Such is its popularity that we thought it is also a very good way of challenging and investigating an author’s work to give width, brevity, humour and depth across six of their very best.

In this series we gather together authors whose short stories both rivet the attention and inspire the imagination to visit their gems in a series of six, to roam across an author’s legacy in a few short hours and gain a greater understanding of their writing and, of course, to be lavishly entertained by their ideas, their narrative and their way with words.

These stories can be surprising and sometimes at a tangent to what we expected, but each is fully formed and a marvellous adventure into the world and words of a literary master.

Manifesto is the first book from green industrialist Dale Vince OBE – the founder of Ecotricity, chairman of Forest Green Rovers and United Nations Climate Champion.  This is the story of a man whose unwavering journey to save the environment has driven him all the way to the top, and a powerful manifesto for anyone who wants to change the world. Dale Vince has led a remarkable life. From ‘enemy of the state’ to ‘green energy tycoon’, he has dedicated his life to challenging conventional wisdom in pursuit of a better way to live. Dale kickstarted the now global green energy movement, helping to bring environmentalism into the mainstream. He pioneered the electric car, built the first Electric Highway to power them and runs Forest Green Rovers, the world’s first vegan football club. With a questioning mind that does not take ‘no’ for an answer, Dale has spent his whole life striving for change.  In his first book, Dale explores what must be done to win the battle for Green Britain. It’s a manifesto of hope, backed up by solutions, from someone with real life experience of disrupting the energy industry and paving the way for a greener planet. This is a manifesto that is changing the world. The revised and updated version has a new chapter from Dale why he decided to shift support from Just Stop Oil to Just Stopping The Tories, why politics is the final frontier for a greener Britain and the truth behind the green economy.“Mad Max meets Laurie Lee” Andrew Merrell, Raikes Journal“A must read” Chris Packham

George Carman QC was, and perhaps still is, Britain's most famous lawyer within living memory. Equally feared and respected, he made his name as an erudite and incisive advocate largely in the field of libel. Coming to prominence with his superb defence of disgraced former Liberal Party leader Jeremy Thorpe on a charge of conspiracy to murder, Carman subsequently defended many well-known faces from the worlds of entertainment, sport, politics and business, including Ken Dodd, Richard Branson and Elton John.
Away from court, Carman was a complex and private yet not unsociable man. In 1986, he met barrister Karen Phillipps and, although she turned down his immediate marriage proposal, the two would have a close platonic relationship for the rest of Carman's life.
Carman intended to write his memoirs but became too ill to complete the book and died in 2001. Using his papers, press cuttings and court transcripts – along with the testimonies of some of those who saw him in action and her own extensive memories of her close friend –Phillipps presents a portrait of this eminent advocate through the cases that made him famous. All the drama of the courtroom world that Carman belonged to is here, along with some of the best and most entertaining theatre the English justice system has ever seen.

‘An exquisitely-written, generous, funny, thoughtful book about the everyday joys of being alive. I love it.’ Dolly Alderton
‘J. B. Priestley is one of our literary icons of the 20th Century and it is time that we all became re-acquainted with his genius.’ Dame Judi Dench
‘My apology, my little bit of penitence, for having grumbled so much, for having darkened the breakfast table, almost ruined the lunch, nearly silence the dinner party, for all the fretting and chafing, grousing and croaking, for the old glum look and the thrust-out lower lip. So my long-suffering kinsfolk, my patient friends, may a glimmer of that delight which has so often possessed me, but perhaps too frequently in secret, now reach you from these pages.’
There are times when there doesn’t seem much to smile about. And for those times, there is this book. J. B Priestley’s 1949 classic teaches us that joy may be found in even the simplest things, and that we all have the capacity to appreciate them.
Delight comprises a series of short essays, all focussing on a single simple pleasure, from reading detective stories in bed to smoking a pipe in the bath; from ‘Cosy planning’ to the earliest summer mornings; and from mineral water in the bedrooms of foreign hotels to the smell of bacon in the morning.
Combining poignant memories of his childhood with glimpses of his interior world, panoramas of life abroad with thoughts about writing, music, theatre – some strictly personal, some universal –this highly readable book bursts with humour and literary flare on every page.
In his autobiography, Priestley takes us on a travel through his life, sharing collections of moments that brought him happiness. This non-fiction memoirs book is a top pick for anyone seeking growth.
For fans of Rory Stewart (Politics On the Edge), Marion Turner (The Wife of Bath), Felicity Cloake (Red Sauce Brown Sauce), and Ross Gay (The Book of Delights).
