Endurance is the ability to sustain physical activity for an extended period without succumbing to fatigue. In sports, endurance is a critical factor for success, especially in disciplines that require prolonged exertion, such as long-distance running, cycling, swimming, and rowing. While many athletes focus on speed and strength, endurance plays a fundamental role in determining overall performance and efficiency.
There are two primary types of endurance: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic endurance refers to the ability of the cardiovascular system to supply oxygen to muscles over an extended period. This is vital for sports where sustained, moderate-intensity efforts are required. Activities such as marathons or triathlons demand superior aerobic capacity. On the other hand, anaerobic endurance is associated with high-intensity efforts that are of shorter duration, relying on energy systems that do not require oxygen. This type of endurance is essential for sports that involve bursts of intense effort, such as sprinting or weightlifting.
The role of genetics in endurance is often debated, as it plays a significant part in an athlete’s ability to develop stamina. Studies have shown that some individuals are naturally predisposed to better endurance due to factors such as muscle fiber composition and cardiovascular efficiency. These genetic traits may give some athletes an advantage, but training and lifestyle choices remain pivotal in enhancing endurance.

A school walkathon! A visit from Popo! Six-year-old Ava’s week has SUPER potential—with just a few snags along the way—in this spot-on third adventure in Vicky Fang’s warm, funny chapter book series.

Ava Lin is in first grade, and she’s really good at dancing, making up games, and finding treasure. This week she’s super-duper excited, because it’s going to be the BEST WEEK EVER. First, her popo—Chinese for grandmother—is coming to visit, and Ava can’t wait to show off the special acorn, button, Post-it note, hair clip, and inside part of a marker that she found on the school playground. And second, this Sunday is the school walkathon. If Ava and her best friend, Kushi, manage to walk twenty-five laps, they will each earn a gold medal! But the week doesn’t go exactly to plan—like when Popo mistakes Ava’s treasures for trash, or when Ava discovers that fundraising for a walkathon is not quite as easy as she had hoped. Is there a way to make this week a super-duper happy one regardless?

OMG UR a Teenager is a coming-of-age novel for the Me-Too generation. Full of Gen Z angst and humor and heart, it’s a revision of the classic story to highlight personal growth in a more feminist age.

Poised on the brink of becoming a teenager, Kat Cruz rides waves of excitement and worry. Life’s possibilities are on the horizon: her first bra, perhaps a boyfriend, maybe a job as a journalist. It all seems so close but just out of reach, until her family moves to a ramshackle fixer-upper and Kat meets the neighbor’s son, Will Morris. Despite the sad state of the house and a rash of burglaries in the area, one look into Will’s golden-brown eyes makes Kat think that perhaps the move won’t be so bad.

Kat relies on her best friend Jen to help her navigate their new adolescent world, including surviving her little brother Max’s superhero antics and catching Will’s attention. Kat’s parents are distracted by their floundering gym business and her grandmother’s advancing Alzheimer’s, leaving Kat to fend for herself against school bully Maria. Then Kat’s editorials in the school paper offend Will’s mother. Worse, her dance at the school talent show shocks her, and she turns her frosty back on the entire Cruz family. With life unraveling at the seams, Kat must grow more quickly than expected—and in more ways than simply filling out a bra.
